Hello gentlemen,
After two years in the making, 18 effects, and 61 pages of some of my personal go to effects I am pleased to announce "Conceptions of Mystery" is now available. It seems just two years ago I set out to write a collaborated set effects and sleights that could be compounded in one book for one decent price. I wanted a book that included real world close magic utilizing the tools we already have ranging from cash, coins, cards, rubber band magic, etc,. The feedback from reviews so far and to my appreciation have been nothing short of brilliant so here it is. http://www.danielmadison.co.uk/Conceptions.html Thanks, Shane |

First review just went up guys check it here.
http://forums.theory11.com/showthread.ph......st300105 You might have seen His Sweetly done: Coin through sugar packet on steroids but what deserves your attention is Conception of Mystery: Shane Black's creativity on steroids!!! Shane Black starts of with a brief account of him transforming from a trick-revealing-klutz to a mind-blowing-pro. That, really, is inspiring. P.I.P.1: Card pips trough glass, the card left blank! Yes, with a portable gimmick you really can pass card pips trough borrowed wine bottles. I can say that this effect is amongst the world's 20 most stunning effects ever created. The gimmick requires some work and practice from your part but the reaction is awesome. moreover, the pips are imprinted towards the bottle's inside and the spectator can take the bottle away! (Though I never am comfortable with this give-away idea.) P.I.P.2: Card pips through draft glass. The face of the card penetrates through a draft glass, the gimmick here is different and so is the mechanism. This one is less portable but you can confidently give away the draft glass for the crd is literally imperinted. Mental and proud of it: A signed bill travels to a locked ring box, the key of which is in an untempered/ungimmicked sealed envelope while the bill left in open has the spectator's chosen card on it! Shane black, I'm proud of you S.F.C.S.E.: Yet the best card steal... All head no substance: A jumbo coin vanishing routine which blows a person away. I found it really useful with poker chips also. Poor Man's ring flight: A ring vanish that requires rich misdirection skills. The hook up is complicated but shane give's a way out (an excuse) if the *** hookup is revealed. I, personally, will be using the excuse more than the vanish itself This effect, I did not like... Water of leaf: This also is a poor filler, I will still use it for kids though because the plot is for kids. C.T.B. Live: Impromptu card through box. It is awesome and will be paying for the price of half the book. Requires a little misdirection and practice. Casper: Ghost card cutting. I personally don't like this kind of effects but as an experiment when I performed for my cousins they were plainly blown. the ending is clean. B.B.Double: A convincing subtelity/flourish that convinces the spectator that you did not double cop the card. Clinch'd: A card shooting technique that can be used to shoot selections when controled to the top. Snap'd (Snap change on steroids): If someone has bought d+M's glitch, it is like that, means shane added a technique to end up clean after marlo's snap change. Blown: A signed dollar to baloon. this is not the best one you will perform. I think it is just a filler. 2nd edition bonuses: Machine gun deck:A card shooting apparatus that requires a deck and a rubber band. Tabled pass cut: A genuine false table cut. Felony: Shane I am full of praises again. I have never seen money magic go to this extreme. This effect is as good as daniel garcia's fraud. Wot's it btw? It is a signed card torn in your hands, restored in their hands!!!! It pays for half the price of the book. b&B Change: A card change: not bad, but not the best either. Copper and silver delight: Was hard to figure out for I kept missing steps while practicing. This vanish is quiet confusing but it makes you the coin god. you change the coin several times with ease. This effect beats the coin bite. Elmer's gag: Will not work until you know a certain advanced technique but still if you know it, it is the best piece of astonishment. What do I rate this book: 12/6 (Not a typo, this book is really 12/6) |

Shane, any chance the product could be sent to Tom Frame ( tomcards on the Café ) for a review? He does the the most detailed reviews over on the Genii forum.
Thanks!

It's been removed since it's in DVD format now but be on the look out for the rest of this material to go to digital in the future, but not anytime soon. I appreciate the support and the kind words Joe you'll find this book to be a diamond in the underground if you like my other material. Cheers! |

REVIEW: Conceptions of Magic http://www.geniimagazine.com/forums/ubbt......st220540 Tom Frame I appreciate you taking the time to review my book Tom, on the other hand the need to rip my creativity in the manner that you have was not needed. These effects have served me well for the past eight years and the book was proofed by several editors so maybe your just a bit too picky but to each his own. I will admit I'm not an english major but others that have read the book have concludedf it easier to learn from than other books on the market. As of the moment I encourage everyone to feel free to contact me for alternative reviews from other contributors in the business that have purchased the book and actually performed these effects. I wrote the book to follow the classic cook book template breaking each effect down simplifying the reading experience. Here was my approach. 1. The effect and basic presentation. 2. Each step along with being number coded. 3. Then illustrations to follow the number codes. In the beginning of the book I explain how to read and follow the book for simplicity. Why did I write the book in this manner? Following detailed steps in a book can become fustrating in long narrations leaving you getting lost on lines and having to back track to find your spot. I wanted to present each effect where it was easy to get a clear picture of what the effect was first so you have a general idea of what your about to learn. Next I wanted you to be able to follow the illustrations which are in HD by the way allowing you to go back and read the steps if needed to get a better picture of what your doing, so far most of the reviews have applauded me for taking the extra step to help readers learn from an easier perspective. I was very detailed in each effect and spent over two years making sure all attention was in detail so I encourage you to understand that maybe my style of writing is just not for you and that's fine. I have included credits, thanks, and inspirations in the book and I clearly stated if I missed anyone my apoligies and I would fix the issue promptly but I did my homework Tom but I don't know everything and in any effect released in this day and age there can always be a missed credit or two. P.I.P- I explain how the effect works and how it can be handed out but I also stated you have to be very careful and pick your audience well if you decide to take that route. P.I.P. 2- Closing and finished handling is explained in detail I'm not sure what you mean there? Mental & Proud of it- Also a workers routine and in any situation in magic where something changes your audience could assume you changed it but that has yet to be an issue with laymen and magicians alike. I believe that lies in the hands of good presentation but call me old school there. S.F.C.S.E.- Please clarify where this has been published since I have been demonstating this handling for over eight years and have shown it to many of the top minds in the industry that are using it till this very day. All Head No Substance- Another routine you have failed to see as unique and once again applauded by many in the business as well as used by them. Another approach is using this with a cell phone. Poor Mans Ring Flight- I'm not familiar with his handling but the inpsiration was the ring flight plot and I'm sure sleight of hand can accomplish the same thing here but this approach allows you to show the front and backs of your hands before and after the execution please show me where sleight of hand can do that. Water of Leaf- I have been doing this effect for twenty years and there is this moment called summer in the ear that allows you the perfect setting for accomplishing this effect, once again you failed to see the potential in the effect here but to be fair I use a torn and restore plot effect with a beer label that kills audiences using the same sleights. Casper- Very different handling here my friend. You begin clean and end clean while doing the same ol' handling, I failed to see Al's take on this so that is my bad but performers such as Kranzo, Ammar, and others love this approach. BB Double & Clinch'd- lol I'm not a card juggler but I guess Lernart Green is since his performs a top shot or Lee Asher has a Diving Board double. Just a flashy way of flipping a double or shooting a card to off the top of the deck and yes like all visual magic it requires practice. Usually sybils and such fall withing juggling. Blown- This is intented as a parlor effect so yes you will need the needle and balloon but I did fail to mention the tear that is prepped in the signed bill thanks for bringing that to my attention I will get on that. Machine Gun Deck- I stated this wasn't a trick in the first sentence, I have gotten rave reviews for the fun of the effect at conventions and added it to the book for those that want somewhere else to go if the situation presents itself. Tabled Pass Cut- I'm aware who creating this approach but the shifting of the pass and cover was my added contribution once again stated. Back & Black- Sorry you didn't see the possibilities of this handling and a simple Tenkai is the clean up upon handout, this is sleight of hand not real magic. Copper & Silver Delight- Once again I stated in the beginning of the book this is a workers collection not the razzle dazzle, smoke and mirror effects that require elaborate setups but instead to give you new ideas and routines to use. Elmer's Gag- I can't beleive you don't like this one since just about everyone I have ever showed this to has it in their workers repoitore now. In conclusion I hate having to respond to a review like this and usually I never would, I respect Tom and his contributions but his review was murderous, bias, and very opinionated and I have worked very hard on these effects to let his opinions diminish my contributions. PS. For those of you that are not familiar with my work feel free to look in last months Genii to find the review for my "Sweetly Done" there as well as this months Magic Magazine for my effect "The Pandora System". And yes I mis-spelled a few words above as well as some puctuation errors I tried to edit but it was too late I guess I will have to live with that sometimes I type too fast.

Shane, I think you are very creative. Sweetly Done and the Pandora System are absolutely astonishing.
If you are going to write a book though, it's imperative that grammar and such are up to par. Some of the examples that Tom provides in his review show a serious lack in that department, and could cause problems for readers when trying to understand what you are trying to say. Tom tries very hard to write fair reviews, and I think he was being fair in his review of your book. Never try to edit your own work. You should have had someone proof read it for you before rushing it to the market. With that said, we can't hit homeruns everytime at bats, and I look forward to your next project. All the best to you Shane.

Frankly I have used these effects with years of testing and each and every one of them work 100% and get very good reactions. His reviews may be fair and from looking at some of his past reviews he is spot on but he his approach is foul and inaccurate for the most part, I've said my peace and at this point it's not about sales, those that own it will have themselves some great material and something new and outside the box. Enjoy! Shane |

I apoligize for the confusion on crediting, I have taken the steps to fix them and bring the book up to par. I started by removing the snap change and Elmer's gag completly from the book. The book was proofed and researched and it's next to impossible to know everything that's been previously published but I edited the book for the grammar, credits, run-ons and such and sent a new copy to Tom for his help in finding things that I may have missed as well as the stores.
My deepest apoligies, Shane |
