Hello out there!
Is there anyone who has some experiences with Dean's Triangle? How well does it work and how are the audience reactions? Many Thanks

I was not blown away. Maybe because I know how the trick is done.

If you can afford it you will have an awesome routine. I have been fortunate enough to see Dean do it in person at his shop and was throughly impressed with it.

I have #53 and will NEVER part with it! For what you get, it really IS a bargain and a beautiful peice of art crafted by both Schoolcraft and Malloy. It never fails to draw curiosity from people that see it and then blow them away after it is seen performed. Nuff said...

I have also been wondering if it would work well and get a good reaction for stage presentation, or would it be too hard to see?

Or you could hire actors to assist you and fake reactions like some we know. I know it is done all the time, but I feel the same way about gypsy thread done on stage. Regardless of the presentation, one of the salient elements is the clean handling. You may as well as do a cut and restored rope routine at that distance. Save it for when it is the most powerful. |

I love my Dean's Triangle and have it set up on my work desk. I enjoy performing it for friends when they pop by my office.
It is definitely not a piece for walk around magic, however would make a great piece for a TV show. Jeremy |

I don't understand paul's comment above, "I was not blown away. Maybe because I know how the trick is done. If you know how a trick is done either because someone has shared the secret with you, or you are a knowledgeable magician and you think you know how it is done based on your knowledge of slights or gimmicks, of course the issusion won't blow you away. That would apply to any magic or illusion. Fact is that it "blows away" all the folks who don't know or "think" they know how it is done. It goes without saying that once you know the secret to an illusion, that it is no longer magic to you. Am I missing something? Dean's Triangle is an excellent illusion with four stages and a great value for the price.

Interesting comment...I practice Dean's Triangle in front of a mirror and I "am blown away" from what I see in the reflection. There are some trick that just seem so magical to watch, even when you know "how the trick is done". Open your mind to the magic and enjoy...don't analyze it.

While it is a beautiful routine, the actual performance is somewhat impractical. The table has to be assembled and it takes a little time to do so. Even with clever patter during the construction, it is essentially "dead time" for any show. The table could be "hidden" from view and brought out during a show, but, to me, that's a lot of hassle, although when I have performed it that is exactly what I did. It really should have been made to "pop" open and lock for an instant set-up.
But, even that aside, it is limited as to how much of an audience can actually see it. It is perfect for magic convention demos where a crowd gathers around the table standing with a view looking down. For any close venue with seated spectators, it isn't practical to do because the trick just doesn't look the same viewed from underneath the table. Someone mentioned having it set up in his office in a post; that is pretty much the perfect situation. Someone else mentioned cameras and video screens. Again, an idea situation. But, for most real world situations, it's a little impractical. However, regarding reactions, the few times on special occasions where I have actually done it for a real audience (not magicians,) it plays VERY well. Anyway, that's been my experience with it. I love it, but don't really do it often because of the limitations mentioned above. |

Lu Chen has several ways. We've probably all seen his incredible round table, but he also does it with two spectators just holding a sheet of glass.

Ya know it is hard to use an Elephant gun for fly fishing. Doesn't make it any less a fine tool.
