Hi
I bought the roughing fluid set from cardshark. Made already 2 Invisible decks and they work perfect. Fast and easy to use.

You could do a "Search", but to save you some time...go to a hobby/craft/art store (ie. Hobby Lobby) and get a can of Krylon 1311 Matte Finish spray. Krylon is what I have used for over 20 years when making R/S cards. This stuff is made for use on paper goods. (Someone will now chime in for Testor's Spray.)

(Oddly enough, Cardsharks product looks like it could be one of those!)

Happy hunting! Smile

Most of the R/S spray that you find IS just relabeled Testors. The label is usually replaced with a label from whoever your buying it from. I come across this A LOT.

Oh... And the price is doubled or tripled of course. It is a specialty product after all... Smile

In my particular case it is not a relabeled can, unfortunately we (in Europe) are not able to get the Krylon and Testors here and the security restrictions do not allow to ship sprays from USA to Europe and vice versa. Strangely enough it is NOT a security issue if you ship stuff from Florida to California. It only gets dangerous when it crosses the border.

So I had to search for an alternative. I was lucky enough to find nearly a perfect spray, but then I experimented with different mixtures of two finishes and the manufactury specially produced this mixture for me. So really NO relabeling. The advantage: the cards still look glossy but get the necessary roughness.

What is available for all people outside of Europe is my innovative spray grid that keeps the cards in perfect place and also allows to spray cards only halfway, what also allows new effects.

I invented this spray grid especially for my new thin cards (Double-Decker) as I feared that they could fly around during spraying.

Thanks Stanyon and Cardshark,
I think I'll opt for the Krylon right now since there's a Hobby Lobby just down the road. I'm excited to go to work on a nice routine Henry Evans displayed at the most recent ring 198 meeting.

Sorry Christian. I should have said "Most in the U.S.".

I didn't mean to point the finger at you.

Krylon works great BTW. And one can of it lasts for quite a while.

Whatever you do with it... one to two LIGHT mistings, and I can't stress LIGHT enough, will produce the R/S effect. Don't apply to the point of visibly wet!

Cheers! Smile

May sound odd, but I use the Testor's spray on cards that I will use to perform Garcia's Torn. It helps me not have to concetrate so much on keeping the pieces lined up...

Without giving too much away, I was wondering if you could explain a little bit about the roughing of "part" of a card.......that sounds interesting.

See Jim Steinmeyer's article in the latest issue of Genii (May 2010) as an example.

My flight to the FFFF this year was cancelled due to the volcano eruption, so I will find some time to do a demo video of the Spray Grid and will let you know about it. There you will be able to see the halfway spraing.

Has anyone ever tried put fanning powder on their invisible deck?

Does it:
a) make the smooth bits smoother?
b) make the rough bits smoother?
c) stuff up the whole deck?
d) does nothing ?

Logically, it will smooth side a bit smoother but I've never tried with mine. Perhaps Mr Stanyon can explain a bit more?

If you like the old fashioned roughing fluid you can go to your local costume store and get a small bottle of spirit gum and mix it about 8-1 (the 1 being the spirit gum) with 90+ pure rubbing alcohol.

Experience is the best teacher...go ahead and try some fanning powder on your invisible deck...make sure you have a spare ID.
