I had a coin trick when I was a kid that I used to use quite a bit. I think it came in the Marshall Brodien set. I'll do my best to describe it. It looked like the box part of a coin box, but no lid. A small container, the size of a small stack of quarters. On one side, it would fit 4 quarters into it. The bottom was gimmicked with a small recess, and if you glued one quarter into the recess, it would appear to be "full of quarters." It was used to make the quarters transpose from one hand to the other. The quarters would vanish from the container in one hand, and appear in the other hand.

I still have a couple of these. Mine are are made out of an orange plastic. Basically, they're a Boston Box without a lid. I liked them at the time, because they seemed so unassuming.

Sounds a little like dynamic coins .

I use to demo this all the time when I worked at a magic shop. I still have one that's a chrome colour. It's quite a good beginner's trick for a lesson in misdirection.

Skc417,
Do you know what this is called, or if it is still produced? |

Mithrandir,
It's not Dynamic Coins. |

Sounds like a German box to me.

I THINK the original name of the little plastic box (mine was blue) is Angel Coins. This was most likely by Tenyo or Tricks. The Brodien version would be a later edition.

I know this as a German Coin Box, like Mike Gallo stated above.

What's the difference between a German Box, and Boston Box?

Originally the german box held 6 coins and had no lid. The boston box holds 4 coins and has a lid. In bobos...the version with the extra chapters it defines many of the boxes

You should be able to find your definitions here.
http://books.google.com/books?id=coPCj8-......&f=false Taken straight from the Bobo book. You should look into getting a copy, great reference. |

Thanks much guys. This is very helpful. I know the original 50cent trick I had was not a coin box, but it sounds and looks like it was designed like a German Box, or Boston Box, minus the lid.

German Box = no lid
Boston (as in George) Box = with lid Plastic import with no lid (for quarters) = Angel Coins / most often blue Marshall Brodien Plastic/no lid = same as Angel Coins, but not titled as such / most often orange Julie |

I had a blue one as well, but I thought mine was from E-Z magic. D. H. Robbins. I have the same "TV Magic Kit" and don't recall it being part of it. I ordered mine from their catalog ,think it was $1.00.

Found it.
http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=S8437 This is it. Essentially a cheap, plastic version of a German Box. |

These neat little coin "boxes" are included in some of the magic sets (along with 2-3 additional tricks) available from time to time at your local Dollar Store. Julie |

This box seems to come with a lot of beginner's sets, for some reason I have never seen it when I was growing up. I only found out about this much later on. Corbett, that's interesting that at penguin they called it coins through hand. I have seen it called flying coins, teleporting coins, etc...
I guess once you have retrieved the coins you are pretty much free to produce them in any manner. |
