When scores fall abnormally low, (Subjects with unusually low scores may be "unconsciously rebelling.") this is regarded as negative form of ESP. Rhine calls it "avoidance of target" and sees subjects as "unconsciously rebelling" aginst the test. Danial Cohen 1965

It offers some characteristics for people choosing a special symbol. This depends on the situation and announcement of the effect of course. Best Th. |

When asked to think of the symbol that appeals to them at the moment, men choose the symbol referred to as "3".
Women choose the "5" or "3" symbols, with an almost equal split between the two. Well-posted magicians like to choose "1", "2" or "4" equally (but who cares?). At least, that's the way it goes down every time I ask someone to think of one of the symbols after they mix the Rhine cards.
The secret of deception is in making the truth seem ridiculous.

I have found that the star is quite the most attractive however it all depends upon position. As a result I put the star at the end and the card I want to force second from the end.
This works even better if I don't show the cards but say them. We have the plus, square, wavy lines, circle and the star. A slight emphasize on the word circle. This also works quite well if showing them one at time. The reason is due to recall. The star is an obvious choice so I leave it last and the second from last symbol is an easy one to recall. Especially if you do not tell them in advance you want them to name one but only after you state all the symbols do you state, "name one"

At this stage, its traditional for me to go against the conventional wisdom, so I'll say that the easiest ESP sign to force is pink.

In fact, I dare to say that this is one of the few psychological "forces" that may well be giving the SAME results in different cultures.
Probably because we don't need to use special tones of voice or words to force the thing... We are using symbols, and symbols are universally recognized at some deeper level. So, yes, once again, Star, Wavy Lines and, right after those, Circle seem to be the most targeted!
Then you'll rise right before my eyes, on wings that fill the sky, like a phoenix rising!

MODS - If I've said too much please move this as appropriate. Thanks.
As a quick demo I draw four symbols on the blank side of my business card and a star on the other side. The symbols and order are as follows; wavy lines - circle - star - square After I've drawn them I talk about esp symbols etc and name them, with ultra subtle emphasis on the star. I ask my spectator to draw a circle round one of them. As I do so I casually place the pen down at an angle with the nib pointing/touching the star. I would say I get the star chosen around 90% - 95% of the time. 1. Wavy lines, being popular, is placed first so that people will avoid it. 2. Second left is a popular choice for position but it doesn't feel right to circle a circle. 3. Most popular choice for shape at most popular position, the Star (force symbol) 4. Boring square at the end minimal chance of selection. If they don't circle the star there are plenty of ploys that will end in a positive result. Derek |
