Just a quick question for those with more experience than myself.
With the influx of traditional magicians moving towards PK effects is PK moving away from Mentalism into Mainstream Magic? What are your thoughts? |

They are moving about the same rate towards each other.

Well, if magicians can link soild metal rings together and make rubber bands pass-through one another, why can't they bend a spoon or move something with their mind?
Self concept is destiny..

I wont go into my own views on WHY magicians shouldnt perform ANY mentalism. There is nothing we can do about it aside from discovering new methods and keeping them to ourselves. You don't see Uri Geller doing the rising card effect so why should a magician, who is blatantly there to use sleight of hand and trickery, perform metal bending? Its just wrong. Just my opinion and I am sure many will disagree with me but I hope more agree with me on this one. M |

In mental effects the key point is believability from my point of view.
And a minor pk effect is much more believable than a huge one. Seeing a match wiggle just a little bit seems to be possible for real; to lift a car, yourself, even a playing card or managing a knot in a spoon isn't - in the eyes of the far most of my spectators, ... So doing something that is unbelievable ... is magic (from my point of view). Doing something that has the touch of "maybe it could be real" is mentalism. When doing pk effects I reduce them consequently to a minimum that is barely visible but still perceivable. And nobody ever thought about a magic trick. The logic is simple: If I would do a magic trick (using trickery) I would produce effects that would be much more conspicuous. The interesting part is that in my experiences the impact of an pk effect rises as the effect itself gets smaller. The reason is the believability again I guess. Best Th. |
