Wow. I saw the Jimmy Olsen, Clark Kent share breakfast commercial and the rough draft with George Reeves doing exercises (the kellogs logo appears on his biceps in one shot) but this was a new one for me.

That's pretty common in early TV. For those that see reruns of The Beverly Hillbillies notice in the opening song and sequence that as the family is driving they point at something. That "something" originally was a billboard for Kellogg's Corn Flakes which sponsored the show when it first aired. You can see many times in the series where Jethro is eating Kellogg's Corn Flakes in a very big bowl.

Ii never occurred to me before, but they were from the hills, the STICKS, where they had none of our modern conveniences. so I wonder where they got a car or where Jethro learned to drive?
I know, I know. Dumb question, right?

My favorite is, in black & white, Fred & Barney enjoying a smoke while Wilma has to mow the grass with a chopping dinosaur on wheels.

Actually, better than that, does anyone remember a cartoon called 8 Man in the 60s. He was kind of a cyborg, but when he lost his power he would open something in his belt that contained "funny" cigarettes that he smoked to regain his power. Of course, maybe he gained his power by eating all those chips and cookies after the cigarette.

I remember reading (or being told) that the hero was really Infinity Man...but that when the cartoon was being readied for US TV broadcast, someone decided that American children weren't familiar enough with the symbol for infinity. According to my source, the infinity symbol on Tobor's chest had to be rotated 90 degrees so that it became the more familiar 8.
Looking back, I can't believe I was gullible enough to believe this. |

"Gullible" is not a real world, at least it is a very old and archaic usage. It was just a made-up word of Shakespeare's, and was only used by a few pedants and critics. It isn't even in most modern dictionaries...

Quick search:
1793 (implied in gullibility), earlier cullibility (1728), probably connected to gull, a cant term for "dupe, sucker" (1590s), which is of uncertain origin. It is perhaps from the bird (see gull (n.)), or from verb gull "to swallow" (1520s, from O.Fr. goule, from L. gula "throat," see gullet); in either case with a sense of "someone who will swallow anything thrown at him." Another possibility is M.E. dial. gull "newly hatched bird" (late 14c.), which is perhaps from O.N. golr "yellow," from the hue of its down.

I was huge 8 man fan and don't remember any smokes to get power. Smoking was common in our house though so maybe not a stand out.

I do remember 8 man and his cigarettes, here it is from Wikipedia...
Murdered by criminals, Detective Yokoda's body is retrieved by Professor Tani and taken to his laboratory. There, Tani performs an experiment that has failed seven times; Yokoda is the latest subject to have his life force transferred into an android body. For the first time, the experiment succeeds. Yokoda is reborn as the armor-skinned android 8 Man, able to dash at impossible speeds, as well as shape-shift into other people. He shifts himself into Yokoda, this time christening himself as "Hachiro Azuma". He keeps this identity a secret, known only to Tani and his police boss Chief Tanaka. Even his girlfriend Sachiko and friend Ichiro don't know he's an android. As 8-Man, Hachiro fights crime (even bringing his murderers to justice). He smoked "energy" cigarettes, to rejuvenate his powers, that he carried in a cigarette case on his belt.

Thank you, Cliffg37. You see, I'm not crazy. At least that's what my voices tell me.
For some reason even some people who remembered the cartoon never remembered the cigarettes. Greg
