And they actually figured out a way to work the "energy pill" into the movie. (Which still sucked.)

Gullible appears in Webster's Third, which is the most recent version of the Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary, Webster's Second, which is the previous version of the Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary, and in the Oxford English Dictionary, which lists the first usage as 1818, by Scott. This particular reference is under the alternative spelling of "gullable." Shakespeare is not mentioned at all. However, "gullible" is given as possibly being a "hack" word, based upon "gullable." English is a living language. For this reason alone, what is a real word is determined more by usage than by a board of professors sitting in a university somewhere saying, "this one is good, that one goes." This is not true of some other languages, such as French and Italian -- even though the occasional neologism does creep in to all languages from time to time.

Thinking back on the "energy source" comments earlier, my kid just found a really BAD cartoon from the late-60's called "Roger Ramjet." Roger, who was about as stupid as Bullwinkle the Moose, would take a "proton energy pill" just before going into battle. It was even in the closing theme song (to the tune of "Yankee Doodle"); "When Ramjet takes a proton pill, the crooks begin to worry. They can't escape their awful fate from proton's might fury!"
Ye Gods! I remember watching this when I was a kid.

I remember that when roger took off in his plane, the general, or whoever usually got a face full of backwash blast and ended up in black face. A few times a nest of birds came out of the plane and landed on the General's head.
The artwork on that show was horrible. Far below today's standards. Popeye's spinach was born of a scientists math error in calculating the amount of iron in the vegetable. Spinach is strong in iron, but no where near as believed in the 1940's.

Back to commercials in programs. I remember one from "My Favorite Martian," which referenced the episode itself, AND managed to be socially unacceptable at the same time.
Tim and Martin go back to the Wild West inadvertently. They have to get to the time machine, which is elsewhere, to get back. When they finally do, it's in a field in the middle of an impending Calvary/Native American battle. They set the machine off right as the battle hits and Martin is in the living room in his own time. He calls out to Tim who comes out of the bedroom, leading a horse with a Native American warrior on it. The commercial was for Rice Krispies; the Native American comes into the dining room, watching Martin trying to fix the time machine while eating a bowl of Rice Krispies. In "Tonto speak," the Native asks what Martin is eating and Martin goes into the Rice Krispies spiel, pours the Native a bowl and mentions that it's the cereal that talks. He pours the milk and the native listens to the "Snap, Crackle and Pop;" "Cereal not talk good. Indian talk much better."
