Hi. Presenting to you...Mind Lister.
A mentalist's prop app for creating the illusion of mind reading by word selection. The performer never goes near the device yet can reveal the selected word the spectator is thinking. Contains the magician's method and secret, performance guide script and five general word lists. Web: http://www.matchygames.com/mindlister.html iTunes: itms://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mind-lister/id368381664?mt=8 Cheers, -Joe |

Not a very good description of the effect, is there a video of this. What actually happens from the spectators perspective.

Updated presentation description:
Presentation The application is introduced to the audience as a device that can store lists. It is handed to a helping spectator who follow the performers instructions. Amongst selecting a word from a categorized list, the words are shuffled but keeping the selected word in shuffle list. When the spectator is happy with shuffling, they are then asked to read out any words in any order. At all time, the performer does not go near the device and stops the spectator after the chosen word is read out or the whole list (this can also be done over the phone). The performer asks the spectator to put the device aside and to picture the word in their mind. The performer then creatively reveals the thought of word. An example; the spectator chooses the word "rabbit" from the selection red list. Once selected, a shuffle blue list will appear with the selected word highlighted at the top for confirmation. The spectator taps the shuffle/stop button to mix the words and stop when happy to read out the shuffled words. |

Sorry, no offence but I'm more confused. Think I will wait to read reviews from others before buying any of these apps.

If this is similar to the effect that Tenyo used for their Magic cartridge for the Nintendo DS, it's a very good (and baffling) effect.
I've been waiting for an iPhone version of this for awhile.

Okay, so I downloaded it, and it's indeed similar to the Tenyo version (just with a lot more options).
My requests for the next update: Allow a choice of fonts to use. The default font is very hard to read for some folks. Allow for customization on the number of items on each list. I'm impressed that so many options can be presented, but again, for those of us with failing eyesight, it may be nice to offer a smaller amount of selections and likewise use a bigger font. Also, a smaller list to be read out will speed up things for those of us who want to go a little faster on the reveal. Allow us to create our own categories and lists of items using the principle. That way I can tailor the trick to certain corporate events. Finally, fix the errant typos on some of the items. Spellcheck is your friend.

Thank-you kindly for you review and suggestions Philemon Vanderbeck.
The next update will include font improvements. I'll also plan to implement validation for customized categories lists and result selection amount. |

Ok, I just bought this app and tried it out on a few people. I like it a lot and will be using it, but I do agree with Philemon on all the points he mentioned.
-An easier to read font. -Spell Check on ALL the words as well as spaces for certain words that need them. -Customizable lists, so I can make lists in other languages and to fit specific themes I will need to use. Also, since the font in the initial list is very small, some spectators might have difficulty touching the specific item on the touch screen. You can show them how to go back and pick the word, but I just wanted to mention it here for completeness sake. Spadesy, I'm enjoying this app and know other performers will too, this is the first version so I just hope these changes are implemented soon. If you want help with finding the typos, please let me know and I will be happy to message you. Thanks for offering this. when do you plan to update it? Mauricio |

Thank-you for your suggestions and review Mauricio.
The next update will definitely have the features requested and is planned to be release early May. I will also accept generalized default lists, if anyone would like to submit. |

The earlier, the better. I have a gig on May 2 that I would love to use this for.

Just bought this on the back of the above reviews. Have to say I was a little reluctant after trying "card vision",
Spadesy let me have that for free in return for a review, but I didn't like it. Mind Lister on the other hand seems to have potential. I say potential because the instructions seem very poor. The writing is so small, that I can not figure out the exact method. I get the idea about certain shapes, (don't want to say too much, and give the game away). Could one of you guys PM me with legible instructions so I can get going with this. Many thanks. Ian. |

DITTO the DITTO.
Instructions were difficult, mostly physically. Whomever thought that font was a good idea should be sacked. Once the font change is made this will improve exponentially. As to this being a basic list app... who makes lists of things and then has a shuffle feature to mix them up? It doesn't make sense. Last but not least, the thing that makes this not a great commercial realization of the potential is that there is no presentation premise. The person reads off words from the list, then you tell which was theirs. While we as magicians know we should create our own premise, the general public is just going to go out there and tell them their word. At least make comment to the possible angles with which this can be presented. Verbal tells Body Language (barf) most likely point in the list to say your chosen word This is a great opportunity to do some cold reading such as "Your mind is incredibly fast at adapting, like to really odd looking script so you are more likely to choose an elaborate word such as..." (which is extremely rudimentary and offered only for example) Make the changes Philamon noted and you will have a much better app. |

I'm still playing with this, think I'm getting the hang of it, and can see me using it if the above changes are made in the update. One other change I would really like to see, is to remove the words "mind lister" that jiggle about at the top of the categories page, to me it just screams out that it is a gimmicky app. Please have a page with just the categories, editable if possible.

A list of Movies would add greatly to the presentational aspect of this plot.

I really love this idea, and the programming involved here. So I bought the app. But I agree with the other posters about the fonts. In fact, in my view the fonts (and the inability to change them) on the iPhone make this essentially unusable and a waste of $$.

I agree about the fonts. Many of my clients are in their senior years and eye sight is a problem. A larger font would be appreciated. This being said it is one of the best iPhone mentalism apps I have. It is always a fooler.

I'm in the process of finishing up my first smart phone app so if there is enough interest in this I could take a whack at it. But I have neither the app nor the Nintendo DS version on which it is based. If someone can PM me with details on how it works I can get cracking on it.
