I bought one of these sets: http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=S3141
and you could see through the pocketed silk. Can anyone recommend a set that is good quality and doesn't have the transparency issue? Thanks. -Paul

Hello:
I've bought 20th Century Silks from both Silk King Studios and P&A Silks and there's no problem with transparency. The silks are expensive at both places. Ron |

The set Royal Magic aka Fun Inc. is very nice looking and very well professionally silk screened, but I agree that the silks are probably only 3mm in weave.
You do not mention your issue with the transparency issue, but it will not detract from the effect at all, but I do question how long they will last with a lot of use. If the transparency issue has to do with using as cover for something later on, this will not really be a problem, as when the silks are held by a corner it does create an opaque silks. Also, your load should be covered with near matching silk and color. |

I make my 20th century with 8 momme silks. I can make them with heavier silks if need be.

If you are set on a new set of heavier silk, I suggest Rice Silks, they advertise at the top of the Silk thread here on the Café.
If you want custom colors and good quality, Richard Hughes supplies excellent quality workmanship and silk material. He can even provide you any color combination you need if you are using special colors to match other silk effects in your act. I will say that Rice and the Royal Magic silk screened pattern are the only suppliers of this type of design silks. Richard Hughes has solid color silks and Tie Dyed silks, to my knowledge he does not make silk screened designs in his standard silk trick items. P&A silks do carry silk screened silks, but you would have to contact them, for your needs. They are the most expensive of the silk suppliers. They are excellent workmanship as well. Their standard is a heavier weight silk product. Contact them HERE |

Thanks for the kind words.
Only Rice and P&A make silk screened silk sets in the 8 momme weight. Royal's is ok but I am not sure of the momme weight. I do not do screened. I mainly do tie dyes (3 patterns) or solids. I have done a few handpainted 20th century. Richard

Paul,
Our 20th Century silks are not often seen in a magic shop, but we do supply the pros and even have them in 24" silk sets for stage magicians. The color options are pretty much whatever you want with center silks that can be solid or printed silks (Happy Birthday, The End, Good Bye, Zebra, Multi color diagonals, and Thank You). Here is a thread that may help you. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=54 Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I live in india where quality magic supplies are scarce, and have undertaken to make my own silks for the twentieth century routine, this one involving a girls pair of nickers. But I haven’t been able to find any good patterns that I can show the tailor here. Buying the right silk was no problem but the tailors aren't especially intuitive (they rarely get this commission) and therefore finding some pictures of the hidden pocket and how it is stitched would be appreciated. Any ideas?

Buy a set from Bob Sanders. I bought a cheap set on-line a couple of years ago - don't remember from whom - and the blue silk bled on the red silk. I now have a blue and mottled purple silk, which I keep in the bottom of my magic junk box. I should throw them out, but I hang on to them for some unknown reason.

See here: http://www.silkkingmagic.com/Rice's%20B......mers.htm It does not have to be actual nickers, it should give a suggestion of them. I have done the Baffling Bloomers for years and the audience always 'gets it' without embarrassing anyone. |

Thanks for the input, still haven't managed to get a good idea of how to describe the pattern for a tailor though. Perhaps I'm old fashioned in thinking I can make a pair of these baffling bloomers, but I have specific colored silks in mind and would like to do it myself, so if any of you who use a set could email or post a picture of the secret pocket so that I could get an idea how to make it that would help. Anyone so gracious my email is aaron.krumins@gmail.com
