Thanks Jerry, Hey I wanted to make it clear I didn't mean to infer that I might not do the forum/members site, that's always been the plan. Sorry I just read what I wrote and realized how it sounded. I was just stating that It was suggested when I first started developing Q. In fact I've been working on adding a chat client so that anyone online can chat w/others if desired. I've been sending so many emails back and forth I found that I WANTED the chat client for ME! thanks Jerry, by the way, your just shipped...

Add this to the list of favorable reviews. "Q" is a great system. Not much more to say about it than what's been said. It's very well made and does the job it's designed to do. It helps that the main "locator" cards use the same numbering system as another classic effect of this type, so if you're used to that, it'll be even more intuitive to instantly locate the remaining cards with "Q," but it's not necessary - this system is a breeze to learn either way.
With one small caveat, I really can't imagine how you could set up an i***x of this sort that would be any more flexible, well-made or easy to use. The caveat is that I would've preferred having the same access to the aces, and think that a tad more work in two strategic locations would've provided for that, but you can still work around that problem with the current system if you must have them. As far as clothing goes, you're going to want a little room - ie, skin-tight jeans probably aren't best, obviously (both for practical and fashion considerations). I often use a busker's vest, and Q seems to be perfect for this. You can fiddle all day in there without attracting attention or looking like a pervert. I'm working on reducing the (very little) noise the move can produce. If there's a little ambient noise where you're performing, that's probably not an issue, but in a silent room it might take some practice to execute the move without an audible tell. All in all a great purchase with tons of applications. You can apply this to pretty much any MCF effect there is, unless you really need a signed card. Thank you, Cosmo, for this excellent and highly useful utility device.

Hey Max,
thanks, wow you must work pretty quiet rooms! I have never even thought of noise being an issue, but I guess it could something to consider... There are several ideas for the Aces, however the overwhelming consensus is that it strengthens the routine to suggest not picking them, that said, say you just want to have any card named, you'll need the aces. I'll post in the members site some ideas. I originally made the set to include the aces, (my original set actually still can, but I don't use them) and so I'll show some ideas and how to modify the set for it. I love all this talk about it, keeps my wheels turning! Just came up with might be one of he coolest ideas with it, I call it Q-at any number. see it in the members section or at the public site, http://www.anycardanywhere.com. |

About the aces: Eliminating them at the outset is logical, since they're "too easy." But if you don't care for this approach, you could just have the four aces loose in four pockets.
You'd either retrieve the right one as needed or have the spectator reach into (say) your right jacket pocket and "take out what you find there" -- which would be the thought-of ace. Cheers, Jerry |

You got it Jerry!
In the routines where the "dummy card" is setup, you could use the Ace of Spades... then if and when they choose it, well you get the idea. I've been home for 28 days... I'm up in the air again tomorrow, (travel a lot) anyone in Vegas up for a get together, or Seattle? Also Hitting Portland and San Jose over the next few weeks! |

Proud owner of "Q" and love it! Went to the Genie Forums and can't believe how they are disclosing the gaff - Especially Richard Kaufman.

After reading the previous post, I had a look at the discussion on the Genii forum.
I'm not sure they exposed anything not discussed here in this thread, but Kaufman and a few of the regulars jumped all over Cosmo Solano and Q in a truly childish, mean-spirited way. It was a classic example of why some magicians should "get a life!"outside online forums and their practice mirrors. Cheers, Jerry |

Hey gang, I felt a little stupid for even responding, my only issue was the "childish" and unprofessional way things were said before the thread even got going. It was just, well, weird! Look, we all know the gaff here, it's the principle, every magic forum I've ever seen or been on has the respect for the secret. At least you all had the good grace to use i***x's lol. When Kaufman said, "As far as discussing the method, this is a magic forum magicians. I encourage discussion of methods. We're not children." I was really disappointed that someone in magic for so long has such a lack of respect for it. You know, we all work hard at this stuff, we spend money on this stuff, and any kid who decides he wants to be a magician for a few fleeting moments shouldn't be able to hop on a forum and collect the essence of what our vocation/profession is built on... SECRETS. Perhaps that's why young magicians are hopping on youtube and exposing anything they can. thanks for the support folks, Jerry put it best, so... now lets get back to the forum and not make this thread about that. I did post a compliments to the Café topic elsewhere, for keeping up the integrity, only now I don't know where I posted it! Can't find it. Duh, such a newbie!

Yeah, Kaufmann was a little harsh. And his Pass DVD is overrated, BTW. Sorry, was that harsh? Must be catching. But true...

Hey all, let me know what you think of a new idea for Q, check out "q at any number". I think it could be a great thing, I've already tweaked it to make it better... And in this video I was leaning over to stay in camera, (my studio just got taken over by a nephew who's visiting!) anyway the "switch" (shhhhh!) could and usually is much better... Love to hear some thoughts on this concept. the current video is here...
http://www.anycardanywhere.com/q-gallery/mediaGallery.html. I'm back on the road, and I'm trying to work out a way to shoot and edit and upload video while in hotels!!! My laptop may or may not be able to handle the hq videos... we'll see! (in vegas, coming to seattle, portland and San Jose CA anyone out there? Wanna get together?) |

I just received "Q" from Cosmo (number 21/100). It is simply the best ....x I have ever seen. It is beautifully handmade by Cosmo's wife out of very supple leather. It is extremely soft and flexible. IT comes fully loaded with pre-folded cards. The instructional booklet is detaield and thorough. The entire system is extremely well thought out. After about 10 minutes of practice you can learn to access any card in a split second. It has endless possibilities. I was a bit hesitant at first to spend this type of moeny but I am glad I did.
Highly recommended. Michael

Re: the Aces... my personal pref, from a presentation standpoint, anytime you can strengthen the "impossibility" in the minds of the spectator it's a good thing. So suggesting not to choose an ace brings up an element of fairness, encouraging them to try and "make it tough" for you. So, I never use them... with that said, I did consider it, and here was my first solution 6 months ago...
Ace of Spades as the dummy card, (in a switch-version of the effect) AH in the left, AC in the right, A D behind the Queen. That's only if your doing a routine where you switch out of course. There was an "ace" pocket but as mr. Einstein once said, "true genius lies in simplicity" and I found it easier just to double up where the queens are... Best to double up only two and keep the others loose. Also, and you can use this in other routines... "would you like face cards or number" Face cards = No Ace! Number Cards = No Ace! I like that. Makes me feel sneaky! |

Just to echo some of the posts above: I received my Q set and find it a great solution to a magical problem I've been working on for quite a while.
I'd looked at Bob Wagner's Master Notebook of Magic, which details the making and use of two types of i***x, neither of which worked for me. I bought and later sold Dean Dill's Revelation, which has a wonderful presentation but with the props I couldn't do what I wanted to do (seemingly impromptu performances). But Q lets you quickly get hold of any card in the deck, neatly folded, for any purpose you want -- e.g., a prediction version of Jay Sankey's Paperclipped/John Kennedy's Mystery Box/ Jon Allen's Destination Box; a thought-of card in wallet (or shoe, etc.) . . . You can also use Q for billets. The big pluses for me are: 1) flat, non bulky i*****s; 2) quick retrieval of any card with an easy-to-remember system; 3) smart design that solves some typical problems with this type of gizmo. You can also use just part of the set for routines involving fewer choices, E*******e, etc. Highly recommended! Cheers, Jerry |

Similar to the Mystery Box, you could also use Q with Tin Opener by Mark Southworth for a more impromptu type effect.

Good idea!
I have been using my Stealth Assassin Wallet. I show a folded card inside at the outset, and at the end I remove the "same" card from the wallet (which has been on the table throughout) -- and show that it's the thought-of card! Cheers, Jerry |

I just spent an afternoon with Paul Vigil in Vegas, (what a cool gig he has there btw!) he started using it at the Mirage the day he got it, and already has some great ideas for presentation... I am working on different ideas, imagine: using a m***k'd deck, ;-) (gotta love those ****'s) a stacked deck, or a mentalists' notepad (for lack of a proper term) I can't wait to get off the road again so I can stay up til the wee hours tinkering with the ideas...
thanks to all here at the Café for a great response! Thanks Jerry! |

I just wanted to say that I just ordered another effect from Cosmo's website and this is the best customer service that I have seen in a long time. Cosmo really cares about making the customer happy. And no...I have never had the pleasure of meeting Cosmo prior to this transaction. Those who have done business with Cosmo know what I am talking about.

Wow thanks Doug!
hey all, I have gotten several emails asking me how long the price on Q will be where it's at. If you read the disclaimer in the online store (in the "add to cart") it's stated that the 'introductory' price is due to the members website being updated and still in the works. There are some videos etc on there but much, much more to come... the complete project comes with several routines, videos on them, videos on timing, misdirection, discussion forum, and I'm now adding downloads (things you can print to aid in some routines should you choose). I can't tell you all how much it has meant to me personally, the responses, the emails, the support, the reviews and the emails asking me to "make a deal". Just for the record it wouldn't be fair to those who have purchased for me to make secret deals on the side. (no offense) I beleive that the product as a whole deserves the price, not just the work and development I put into it but the commercial value as a performer. I performed my pet "Q" routine in Vegas this weekend several times, and that routine could stand alone and have a price tag higher than the whole package. (this is my opinioon of course, but was brought up to me by three magicians there who I showed it to.) (BTW I am trying to come up with a way to share that routine on the website, but it requires extra props and setup and some items I created...) Anyway I DO appreciate all the attention this has received. this post is to say that the price will stay down until I have the time to bring the members site up to my intentions. I'm on the road for another week and will be home for a couple of weeks which is when I plan on dedicating my time to the videos, editing etc. Sorry to go on so long here! Oh and Carrie, (my wife) says thanks for all the kind words re: her work on the units! Coz |
