This one was a hard one to shoot. Again, no time and money to really do it up nice. And, MAN did we have problems each time we did the effect. I had invited a few women (that knew me but didn't know me well at all) to help us with this. And, each time we brought in a new person SOMETHING ELSE would go wrong! Thankfully the last take worked well enough. And, H.P. did some SWEEEEET documentary style stuff at the beginning and end, really brought up the style a lot.
My main problems with it are with........ME. But, it's a learning curve at this point. Hope you like! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-A-ZmQWvI......embedded

That was fun. I like that you mention you invited a few women to help...as though the others ran screaming at some point.

Good theatre indeed! Tony
As magicians we create what onlookers call magic. If they truly believe in what we have created for them to witness then magic is real!!!

Enjoyed this -- but --
And I mean this in the most courteous way -- Every mentalist I have seen so far, with the exception of DB, can use a good dose of direction and staging from a professional director and some tightening of premise/action from solid writing done after try-out performances. We are in an MTV, fast moving generation and too often do not account for the rhythms and flow of words that must allow out work to appear smooth without being slick, impromptu although full of prepartion, engaging without meaningless repetition unless its rhythm adds specifically to the effects resulting spectator amazement. Eyes of theater professionals with little or NO MAGIC experience and with demonstrated experience in improv (seeming) performance are expensive -- but can polish routines -- as this one -- from a pretty piece into a valuable gem. Christian's demeanor and presentation right now is exceptional and very worthy of note. With the addition of other eyes and professional policy, he could be a major force in commercial mentalism -- beyond engaging where he is now -- and well into the type of performance that DEMANDS PUBLIC attention.

This is a reworking of a piece that was in my stage show The Pandora Experiment, it actually has been through quite a few performances in multiple runs in a professional theatre situation. But, changes had to be made for the video both technically and scripting, especially since we have to do the piece out of context from the show. Originally there is nothing about the Queen Ann and the school in the routine, those were things we added a wee slice of for the sake of justifying the use of the great space. Let me make clear that I actually agree with you. I am only giving a context for what we have created so far. There's only three of us and all of us have to eek out the time to do these (one of us is a film maker, the other a day job and the other is taking care of a mother with ailing health.) In other words, I'm trying to do what Derren does with more time and budget with..... well...no time and budget (although I DREAM about getting to that level so I can make these the way they should be made.) For now, I'll have to do this via the School of Hard Knocks and figure it out as we go along and make more and more of these videos (hopefully) better and better each time. And, thank you for the kudos and putting that carrot before my face =) that too is much appreciated.

Bravo Christian--
Your goal and use of a team is the way to stardom - and I am glad you recognize the need for other eyes to look at the work. Time an money problems face us all -- and if you are familiar with Derren's story, you will find his team came together early on and funding (and character re-write) came later after a casting call. One of the major problems with drama (and mentalism) is that which you recognize clearly -- excerpting out of context weakens the material -- sort of like taking supporting walls here and there away from a building. Often - we ned to strip the material back to a principle, rewrite and re-stage it for the medium in which we have the most profitable and powerful presentation. This presents a problem, then, in presenting a "live" performance on a u-tube *(or tv) format for evaluation. The eye of the camera is unmoving --and does not present redirection of attention (misdirection) well to the viewer whose focus remains the full frame -- not the internal movement as segregated by the attention and elimination of "extraneous" material as in live performance. To Wit: The many crosses behind the subject might work well in live performance with little more motivation needed than positioning of props, mike, etc. BUT on video it becomes distracting and looks disorganized. If you are familiar with Malloy's Bill in Lemon -- it has some of the best motivational sequencing or motions (trips to the briefcase) I think you will ever see. I do love your persona -- lovable cross between Carl Sagan and a nerd with solid confidence. You bring balance to humor and mystery -- which is too rare in today's all or nothing bladder comedy versus true believer cultic presentation of our material. Reaching for Queen Anne -- a little arcane for the US -- and I am not sure what might come on either side of this routine -- to build or support character and plot. Your photographer should be complimented -- his technique is getting better -- and your editing is getting tighter. Unless, however, you have a multiple camera set-up going -- you probably are going to have to shoot any routine or material several time --- with continuity of material and location in mind for post production if you are going to build and maintain reputation via u-tube, etc. I feel you have a lot to contribute to the real performance art of mentalism and bizarre where you have placed yourself in character -- and the development of repertoire, as you know, takes a while. I know Christian and Katalina took at least three years before they STARTED being completely happy with some of their material and are always looking to tighten and improve. It appears you are on that route -- stick to it sir. With respect -- and best regards.

Thank you sir!
Yes, H.P. is a very talented director, writer, composer...editor...sound designer...graphics maker...his talents go on and on and they all make me look really good. I have quite a bit of material do draw from (for a short segmented web series that is, as opposed to hour long specials) and other things I want to develop too. It's the framings and reframings that will be tricky. But you made a great point for me to be aware of--to paraphrase your words---- "Derren had the team before they worked it all out (over seasons.)" that not only makes this seem more attainable, it makes me rethink the "game plan." Thank you! C

P.S.
The weird crosses helped me attain the .... "goal". But, yes no good for the unmoving eye of the camera.

I loved the use of the music box as "the purpose" to cross in front of the spec. Seemed very natural to me.
