Sticking to movies related to mentalism, and in addition to NIGHTMARE ALLEY and THE GREAT BUCK HOWARD, may I suggest...

HANUSSEN(1955)
HANUSSEN (1988)
INVINCIBLE (2001)
Of the preceding films, all of which deal with the man known as "Hitler's Astrologer", I have only seen INVINCIBLE with Tim Roth, which was okay.

If you wish to consider TV movies...

COLUMBO: NOW YOU SEE HIM (1976)
Jack Cassidy (hmm any relation to...?) plays the murderer: a magician who uses a m******* o** mentalism effect to help establish his alibi.

MURDER BY NATURAL CAUSES (1979)
Hal Holbrook plays a mentalist whose wife wants to kill him! I saw this when it first aired on television but I don't remember much about it. It did receive a lot of critical acclaim.

COLUMBO GOES TO THE GUILLOTINE (1989)
A magician who has made a name for himself by exposing phoney psychics is murdered by a mentalist who is trying to con the US government with his remote viewing claims. Lt. Columbo pursues the killer, learning some of the tricks of the trade along the way and ultimately duplicating the remote viewing effect. The action takes place at "The Anneman Institute"(sic).

JONATHAN CREEK: THE SEER OF THE SANDS (2004)
This is a UK series whose title character is an illusion designer who also solves impossible crimes. This one includes a nice prediction effect for the next time you perform at the beach!

There are two current TV series in which the main characters do very good examples of cold reading based on NLP and gesture reading. They are:
"The mentalyst" and "lie to me".

I like to watch them because it seems that the directors have done good research in cold reading techniques so the acting looks real.

2001: A Space Odyssey. Not a movie related to mentalism, but a movie that mentalists should watch.
Some people hear voices.. Some see invisible people.. Others have no imagination whatsoever.

Ups! Sorry for the spelling mistakes. I switched the "i" and "y".

The series are:

"The mentalist" and "Lye to me"

Others that still get my personal creative juices flowing but likely will not appeal to many others here: Playtime (1967), Pierrot Le Fou (1965), The Wind Will Carry Us (1999), Dream of Light (1992), Dead Man (1995), Vertigo (1958), Fanny and Alexander (1982), & Yeelen (1987).

I cant believe nobody has mentioned

STREET THIEF.

It is a documentary about a guy who makes a living breaking into places without getting caught.

Near the ending you will find a great twist.

Great, excellent movie!!

Go rent it!!! or watch it on NETFLIX!

David Lynch does really good movies. The storytelling is really bizarre.

The original Wolfman. A few scenes with a gypsy fortune teller. I am always reminded of these scenes when reading descriptions of some of the things at outlaw effects.

Lucio Fulci's City of the Living Dead (aka Gates of Hell) Seance scene where a woman has a nasty vision and screams herself to death, and then wakes up in her coffin.

The Manchurian Candidate although not really mentalism.

Didn't read all this, so if no one mentioned it Next with Nicholas Cage is good.

Also Unbreakable with Bruce Willis.

"The Color of Money" w/ Paul Newman & Tom Cruise....

Fast Eddie Felson: "I'm a student of human moves."

A lot can be learned from that statement.

I forgot THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS. I haven't seen it yet but it seems like it should be on the list.
