Hello,
If someone is interested, Colin Mcleod has published a new collection of fantastic mentalism pieces under the name of "Lessons in reading Minds". Colin is publishing really interesting works, with devilish plots and fresh approaches like this last one. Best of all, is practical, workable and astonishing stuff. This little book (in page numbers, not in content) has 7 effects (and some great thoughts). 1)Result: I saw Colin perform this effect some years ago an it works really well. It's a way for make a prediction that opens a lot of possibilities and I I would suggest create your own presentation or routine, so the handling and procedure is part of something more powerful. 2) Dunninger ploy additions: Bits of finesse like this one is what makes the difference between a normal performance and a blowing performance. Most of the time, the details make the difference. 3) TechNo?: A method for perform, the kurotsuke effect in the hand of the spectators. I love the simplicity. Something I have to try, but in print it looks terrific. 4)Loterry: This routine is fantastic!. Spectators can guess your lottery numbers. Very clever and direct in method, again, so "simple", so brilliant, you'll laugh. 5) Winning numbers: The follower of the previous one. Again, practical and it uses lottery numbers without being the prediction of a lottery number. Psichometry and thought reading with a lottery background. I know I'll perform it. Again, I think is interesting give the demonstration a context. 6)The Magpie: It's a secret gimmick you can use for get peeks. I'm sure it can work, just not for me. I would like see Colin perform it for get a better idea. 7) A Matter of timming.:A routine and premise where you get a macro effect (as Mr. Cassidy says) involving different spectators using a borrowed watch. An example of how involve audience. I think this a perfect routine if you own Psykys watch...or just any watch if you love bluff and boldness. I love how Colin uses and twists existing plots for get fantastic, very strong and solid results. And I will like all the books and notes published in mentalism would have the creativity and real workers that "Lessons in reading minds" contains. You can look the description of the effects and more of the Colin's work here http://web.mac.com/colinmcleod1/MentalEn......oks.html |

I received the notes in last week's mail. I didn't want to tell anyone about them, though I considered starting a thread. Since Dario's let the cat out, I can say... these notes are a complete waste of time; don't bother. (wink)

Now I must start off by saying that Colin is a very good friend of mine and what I say is biased.
Like, SERIOUSLY BIASED. So with that being said his work is just terrible, it's the pits! Only joking Col, don't ring me up to have a b*tch 'Lessons In Mind Reading' contains some amazing pieces of clean and often minimal prop mind reading. I write mind reading in preference to mentalism, as Colin's work here is all about reading minds rather than other aspects of mentalism. Colin and I often talk about how to make both of our acts fit into even smaller and smaller folding files. I am pretty sure that if you took just three or four of these effects you would be able to perform out of a single, slightly larger than A4, envelope. Regardless of this minuscule space saving the effects would play to a large audience, and get amazing reactions. My favourite effects in this work are 'Result', 'Dunninger Ploy Additions', and '£ottery'. Each of these effects could pack flat and play big as I mentioned above. Another great piece of thinking can be seen in his low-tech take on Kurotsuke, TechNo. No electronics, yet you are able to have the participants place the balls in the bag and you have no need to touch the bag during the performance. EVER! Forget that I am Colin's mate for a while, just focus on the fact that this is amazing material from a guy who is a great thinker. I simply cannot imagine that a mentalist who reads this book will be able to say "I got nothing at all from this." There are too many great ideas and subtleties for one of them not to hit you right between the eyes. Do yourself a favour and put your hand in your pocket...nuff said! Colin, may your superfluous third nipple always glow Cheers, -Paul

Thanks for the review, Paul; it helps to make my decision, but I must take issue with one comment:
Third nipples are never superfluous. |

Eric, the more we chat, the more we put in! I honestly think it will be worth the wait! I hate all this hype nonsense that's why I'm not wanting to discuss the entire contents until it's done!
I think it will be ground breaking and that's purely on the basis Paolo Cavilli is a MASTER at what we do! I'm honoured he's shared as much with me as he has! At the very least, you're going to LOVE what he's done Col.

That's some of the stuff I would like to see MORE when it comes to Mentalism.
