Does anyone use Superkid! or Fairytale mix up? Would you post a review?
I'm interested in how these play and also what props are required for them. Thanks Courtney

Huh, no one?
I like the sound of them, but the descption is to vague. If I do decide to get them I'll let everyone know what I think.

Seadog93,
If I remember correctly, I have seen these two effects on some magician's web site for sale as a complete package with all of the accessories. I found it when looking on a thread here on the Café. Help me out Café members, am I remembering correctly? Hank |

I see from your other thread you are now using these. What do you think and what props did you need to buy? Thanks Mark |

Oh, I thought I had written a review of them. Maybe it was on a different thread.
I have so far only used Fairy Tale mix up (and will be using Superkid for the first time next Sunday). OK my first reaction was that I had wasted $20. There were several jokes in each that I thought where quite inappropriate and several things that I thought were done in a silly way. BUT, after I calmed down and went back to it I got excited about the idea. I simply changed or omitted the jokes I didn't like and changed the way some of the story elements where done. I think Fairy-Tale mix-up is a bit more well thought out AND it ends with the little girl getting a present; I have simply added the last part of FairyTale Mix up on to the Super Kid routine and now the little boy gets a present to. If you get SuperKid PM me and I'll tell you the other aspect I changed that I think will make it much better. It wouldn't be fair to post to much here. It's mostly pretty basic stuff: Change Bag Devil's Hank Cape (I made one, easy) "bad Guy" picture "Bad Guy" figure (different bad guy) toy dog little basket The above is all I can think of off the top of my head for Fairytale mix up and except for the last two I use them in SuperKid as well. SuperKid, as written, needs a couple of weird things but to be honest I didn't get any of them. but they include: Jumbo Shapshooter deck (This was two expensive, I'm using two large Bicycle decks, that I already have) Zoom Zoom deck (you could make one easily) 12" Metal pipe (didn't like that part_ Z-ray specs (did like them, couldn't find them, don't need them) If you do them as written you will also need pantyhose and superman underwear. No really, it's in the script. Suffice it it to say I don't use them. All in all I liked both of them and feel like I've been able to add exactly the type of routine I wanted into my birthday show; a mini play where the birthday boy or girl gets to be the main character AND gets a special magical present at the end.

I bought both out of curiosity and I will never buy anything from this author again. Like Courtney, my $20 "investment" netted me two manuscripts that were, in my opinion, totally inappropriate for a family audience. The pantyhose and the "Toto creates the 'yellow' brick road" bits were so bad that I stopped reading and tossed both scripts into my "Maybe Someday" file.
During a "Purge the Old Files" weekend, I scanned over them again and saw the kernals of potentially good stories. I rewrote the scripts completely, changed the effects and tossed the originals. The rewritten stories have become a popular addition to my shows. So, in effect Courtney and I managed to squeeze lemonade from these lemons. My opinion: If you're the type of performer who is comfortable reworking routines to fit your performance style, then these scripts may have some modest value as creative fodder. Otherwise don't waste your cash.
