Ever had anyone say that to you? You ask for their name and they tell you to TELL them, because you are THE mind reader.
Any suggestions as to what might be a cool response? I have never had this happen, but I can see that it could with the right (wrong) person. Ray |

It is Frank, isn't it?
-No, my name is Mark -Sorry I picked on the name your parents were hesitating naming you, before they settled for Mark :D Maybe the question from the spectator can be avoided if the performer doesn't make the mind reading process appear to be trivial. In that case, if the question still arise, maybe you can tell him something like: - I feel that if I was telling you your name right now, you would not be impressed because you would think I may have heard someone calling your name earlier. What I suggest instead is to join me and take part in some experiment where there will be no doubt about having had your mind read. good brainstorming to all M. |

Do you want me to tell you your Real name or the name that you used when you check in to that cheap motel? (then you roll your eyes and scoff)

It's 'Yes, yes, (Insert mindreader's name)', isn't it?
No? Well maybe you should consider changing it, because it sounded good when your wife was calling it out last night...

There is something in PS3 about this.
Whenever it has happened to me in the past I usually just mention that the audience as a whole doesn't, and it's not fair to them. |

You might avoid the problem by saying to the spec, "Please tell the audience who you are," rather than asking, "What's your name?"

I think the problem is more how this "person" performs mentalism, if a spectator ask me this kind of thing maybe it's because I've create it, like a challenge mentalism ( I'm clever and more intelligent than you and this kind of stupid things, it's what I call magician syndrome) and not like a connection between them and me.

BTW, I never do that. My opinion is, no matter what you really want to do, the audience - large and small - wants to see you handle it like a gentleman and demonstrate you won't insult anyone... if you must, you need to make the audience tear apart the individual and you step in to help him or her... really. Never be the bad guy or you lose the respect and trust of all.

Dr Spektor, I totally agree that is one way of handling it...
...unless the audience like you already and can see the guy playing up, then they are quite happy for you to gently and humoursly resolve the situation. Let the audience know you won't insult or embarrass anyone, but also let them know that if you need to ... you can! But then it does all come down to the performer, their style and the mood of the environment they are in! Col.

Just shake their hand and say "hello, I'm iain..." and they can't help but say their name too...its an auto-reaction, same as putting your hand out to shake...
please note, do not say "hello, I'm iain..." if you name is not iain... but if they p*ss about, just give them a name, and insist that's what it is...agatha, agnes, fred west...something like that...
