Hey guys,
All of the sleight of hand coin routines I do are done with half dollars. While I can classic palm halves/quarters very well, I find it difficult to classic palm silver dollars. So begins my journey of classic palming silver dollars! The set of silver dollars I own are very, very soft and therefore, the edges are silky smooth. Do you recommend I have the edges re-milled? Do you think the time and expense of doing this will be worth it in aiding my classic palming? Many thanks! Roberto

I had mine re-milled and I am glad I did. Everyone who tries them likes them. I had Jamie Schoolcraft do mine.

As much as the re-milled is nice... ultimately by learning to classic palm silky smooth coins... it will make your classic palm more universal and stronger. If anything I would say just go find a silver that isn't as silky smooth and learn with that one and then move on to your silky smooth silver. J |

Sounds good guys, I appreciate the feedback. I think I'll just practice with my very soft coins and take it from there. Thanks!

Time takes time...
With my 5'5" frame and matching small hands, I thought I would have to stick to quarters. Over the years I have gone smaller (dime sized usa) and up to Morgans.(1921's to match the year my father was born) Working with 2 will help one feel easier... working with 3 will help 2 feel easier. Some like ones with "newer edges", some hands like smooooooooth like english penny's. You will find what works. Perhaps sooner than you think it will suddenly appear. Work in small increments of time..more frequently.. above worked for me. Would you like to see my MP with a nickel? just sewious..... Harris

Time and patience is all that is required here. I use soft Morgans, and I have an easier time with them now that with anything else. It becomes a matter of what you are familiar most with, after a while.

Agreed, continual practice brings results - or so I am told. My CP is ok but still trying to make my Morgan coin roll silky smooth in both directions and with rolling between hands.

Thanks guys, very encouraging feedback. I've been walking around classic palming my soft Morgans as much as I can. Sometimes I get a good palm and sometimes I don't. I guess it's what many have said, practice.
I have another set of Morgans, a Schoolcraft Dean set, but I don't want to walk around with those to develop my classic palming because I know I'll be dropping them every now and then. I'll keep at it. Roberto

I used half dollar coins for years, simply assuming that dollar-sized coins would be too difficult. I was wrong. I started fooling around with a Peace dollar just to see if some of my half-dollar skills could be transferred to a dollar coin. In a very short while I found that the dollar's larger size makes them easier to hold on to and manipulate. Easier to see, too.

On a side note, this is one mistake I made when I was transiting from half dollars to silver dollars. For half dollars, the kapps subtlety can be used more overtly, but its trickier for the dollar coin, I've got to be careful when palming the silver dollar as it may flash between the first finger and the thumb. Hence not able to use the kapps subtlety to its full potential.

Hi Roberto,
Do you use any lotion for your hands? I always find palming dollars difficult if my hands are dry but with some on them lotion I find it much easier. Kind regards Sean |

Some rosin makes a world of difference also...

You might try Chamberland's Lotion. It's realativly inexpensive and leaves a slight tack.
