Jonathan wouldn't be Jonathan Grant would he? If so some locals have heard of him but haven't seen his show.
If you're doing this on live TV Jonathan what network? Why not do something else? maybe respray the deck you're using. I have two deck effects that I use that work exceptionally well for mentalism. One is Spelmann's, the other is Jay Are's. Saw Jonathan's ad on gigmasters. I can get you a booking or two Jonathan - just PM me about it. |

I think there is a big misunderstanding here. I'm not doing a TOD. I'm actually using it for something completely different, and the part that uses the concept of the peek deck isn't actually going to be seen on TV.
I figured out another way to do it which might be better so I can use the force I've been using for 11 years. I understand LOTH point and I actually agree. It's not that I poo-poo on the responses I'm given, it's that they don't actually apply because 9 times out of 10 I'm doing something different than what posters assume. For obvious reasons, I can't go into too much detail being that this is a public forum. When I have a question it's usually something very specific that you won't find answered in a book or just by doing a couple of tests. What I'm looking for usually are things that would take many years of performing a particular effect or method to iron out the problems. Usually I can figure it out myself, and 99% of everything I do I did myself based on my own research, my own thinking, and my own experience. But, occasionally there are things that are outside of my expertise that I know or assume magicians and mentalists have been doing for decades. Why not just take a few minutes to learn from those who have the experience? It'd be one thing if I relied on others to do everything for me, but considering almost everything I do is the result of my own hard work I think it's okay to inquire into others who have much more experience in certain areas than I do. |

BTW, I never read Tarbell because I didn't come from magic like most. Naturally assumed it wouldn't be much help to me (sponge balls, coin magic, etc). But, it sounds like it has some good foundational stuff so I just might take your advice and read it!

Devin is right. Outta Sight does solve the problem. And others (like another spectator getting a peek). Very clever design. It is darned convincing. But then, I'm a DK fan. But you oughta check it out. Not that expensive.

Three years old, but...
I use the reversed Svengali EVERY NIGHT! It's called a Lightening Deck and was sold by Nelson in the 1950s. Eddie Clever has a lot of work on it. I NEVER let an audience member handle the deck, tossed or other wise. That decision comes from 10,000 fail-proof shows. I riffle, show the different cards, riffle again and let them shove their finger in. They look at a card and I let the rest flip by so they can see different cards. For those who don't perform with a tool every day it may seem difficult to know when soemone has no experience. My friend, when I say experience, I mean at least 100 performances. So until then, why not just say, I'm not fully experienced? LIGHTENING DECK Peace. PS - Funny tha bdekolta is on here. He's forgotten more about cards than most will ever know! |
