Does anybody ever play with spring animals?
Tell me what you think.
And do you know where to get some good tips on making him look real?

If you can get ahold of the David Williamson video he can make a believer out of anyone. He is great with Rocky. I can't remember the title of his videos right off hand. I do know that I couldn't find it on DVD. They can really add to your show if you use them right.

There's a book by Larry Mahan called 'Spring Animals' that's worth a look. The best instructional video on Rocky (and Judy Mouse, too), I think, is the Bev Dowling video, put out by Flora and Co. There's a couple more videos I've seen that range from so-so to dire, though you can still learn the basic moves from them.

Greg McMahan has some really good ideas in a couple of his books: "Balloons on the Mailbox", "Birthday Fun", and Sammy Smith has his Rocky routine in "Kiddie Patter" and "Little Feats".

Cheers,

Bill

I have Larry Mahan's book, but want to buy videos also.

Is it possible to buy the Bev Dowling video and the David Williamson video from online shops? Which online shops carry these videos?

Thanks in advance!

I have been looking for David Williamson's video and haven't found it. The one I saw was a friend's and I have wanted to buy it since. I would like it even better if I could find it on DVD. VHS is outdated in my home. If I find it I will let you know.

Hello to all entertainers of quality & other!

I'll be presenting a lecture on working with the Rocky Raccoon puppet at the Kapital Kidvention in late January 2010. I have lots of cool ideas and routines to present, as well as a great way to quickly & easily change costumes on the puppet.

Pat Paige put out a video on working spring puppets years ago. I recall it was was very short (ie. 10-15minutes) and showed some technique, but I am pretty much self-taught. I use my spring skunk simply for its shock value. Helps me to greet guets as they enter the room. TI handle him as if he is real... As a result, tey are not certain if he is real or not --then as they reach out to pet him he Jumps" (so do they! Smile

Puts guests in a cheerful and lighthearted mood for the evening to come.

Works every time for me as a warm-up.

Just my 3 cents.

Anyone else thought of using RR in a juggling routine?

Costumes(including hats) and props are wonderful with and without the puppet.

Sharing puppet workshops with middle school students at the beginning of each quarter, has helped me a lot in developing new material and touching up the older stuff.

My bad... did I suggest that Patrick Page put out a video on working a Spring Puppet?

It was actually Jim Pace that put out this short but informative video (about 10-15 years ago).
