I just downloaded the SQUARE app for my Droid phone (iPhone is also available). Once you set up your account on the website they send you (free) a small card reader that connects to the audio jack on my phone. NOW I can accept cards at the party and have the transaction approved immediately! I can email the receipt to the customer.
There isn't a monthly fee or a penalty for not having enough transactions. The transaction fees are similar to PayPal fees, so now I will use both. I still prefer cash, but now I can give the client a choice. I'll post again after I receive the reader and start using it. wes holly |

Received it yet? I put mine in the day it was released and still haven't gotten my scanner yet. It's really nice though. The app and payment system are great. I used it for cash and checks at a few shows recently. I wish I had more customization on the mailed receipts though.

I'm still waiting Apparently they received a whole lot more requests than was expected and it took a considerable time to get the manufacturer to crank out more. Now it looks like they aren't shipping them out until they figure out some procedural rules & bugs. It looks like the lucky ones who have one became the defacto beta testers. I'll post again when I get one and have the chance to use it.

I heard it was also a security issue, with CC numbers not being protected properly. I was a fan of these guys, but I'm going to hold off for the security reason alone.

Yeah, I got the email too. Wish I would have got in earlier. Oh well I guess. I hope they figure their stuff out soon. It's been ages.

Wow - it finally arrived in the mail today. And this after several erroneous email saying the reader was being shipped. I plugged it in, paid my self $1 with my card and was very happy with the ease of it. Now I can tell my clients I can accept credit/debit cards at the party and not have to make them prepay through the PayPal service.

I've been using mine since I received it last year, I love it. Besides magic, I do a lot of consulting, and I am working with a company to open a new store, and the sole method of payment is going to be square. We are using an iPad mounted to a swivel stand above a cash drawer. It's working out great! I actually don't like cash as much because I NEVER use it and just want it in my account. At least with checks or credit cards its automatically in my bank account and I don't have to drive anywhere to deposit it. I haven't had any issues and the apps are constantly updated, often with new features. They just came out with the new card case app. It allows tabs which is great for restaurants and Cafés.
