Nice addition Charlie.
It is tired to say but for someone with a sense of humor this is a true worker I tell people that "I don't know why the cloth is called the curtain of death, maybe I should have spent the extra 30 bucks for the curtain of life." Also once I have been cuffed in after the initial byplay and examination of the cuffs I pause a beat and say "great now I have to go the bathroom" |

Just found this on YouTube. A real live performance of The Suit Jacket Escape. Not for a comedy club setting but a regular audience.
Based on the number of hits I don't think Mr. Lindan even knows this is posted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1WC9ZOeNKU |

Hello all,
I have made my own curtain of death and it is canary yellow! It is funny, first of all the reason behind this is this was the only color they had on stock and I was in rush because in a couple of days I had my gig in Hard Rock Hotel, so I took it and a good line come with it! When I am presenting the curtain as the "Curtain of Death": "Yes, I know people what you are thinking it looks like much more Dennis Rodman's new hair outfit but believe me this is the Curtain of Death!" Charlie Justice's idea borned in my head without reading his post (I have a boxer shorts with hearths on my head:), I have an other upgrade at the final phase when I have the suit jacket hanging on my head before that I put on a woman's bra, good old granny style and when they remove the suit jacket like nothing happened not saying anything pretending everything is normal saying thank you to the helpers etc etc closing the show!

Am I correct in my assumption that this could be performed surrounded?
Thanks, Dan. |

Yes Dan. This can be performed surrounded for most of the routine since you'll be inside the curtain, except the last bit. After you've escaped from the suit jacket, your hands are still cuffed behind your back. Then your hands come free to shake the assistants' hands and thank them. People from behind may see how your hands come free from the chain, although they may not completely understand how it's happening.
This is a fun routine! |

Here are two possible ways to end while being surrounded: 1) with the coat over your head, ask your assistants to raise the current "one more time" and finish by putting your jacket on and holding the cuffs raised in victory (or some variation... maybe end exactly the way your began with coat on and hands cuffed behind your back, then ask a volunteer to unlock the cuffs. 2) ask one volunteer to remove the jacket from your head and ask the other to "unlock" the locks while you say something like, "maybe I should try a different jacket next time." I really do like the look of this.
Entertaining, fun, audience participation and a full 5 minute routine. What is there not to like?

I just got this and I love it. I was wondering if anyone experience with Thumb cuffs instead of shackles?
I got this to get some ideas to add to my thumb cuff routine but I think I will drop my old routine and replace it with this. Thanks Patrick |

I have this and has been a part of my show now for a few years. I use the shackles. Not sure how the thumb cuffs will play out. To me the thumb cuffs are a little harder to see that they are still on.

John Lovick has a really good routine in his book that was just released combining this with Harry Anderson's Cuff Links

Hey all. Sorry to revive an old topic but I'm really struggling. Could anyone suggest/recommend where in the UK I can purchase the chunky chain shackle escape cuffs for this routine please? I currently have a cheaper version (which have what look like bath plug chains🙈) and are not suitable. Thanks in advance

Having a hard tim finding a good quality set of the shackles for this routine. All of the ones I’m finding ether have a strange shape in the middle of the wrists not just an oval more of a bone shape or it has a cheap thin looking chain. Any advice anyone can provide on finding a good quality shackle escape for this routine would be really appreciated.

You can also take The oval ring to a machine shop, pic a chain link size you like ( heavy duty, lite , medium, ) measure the length your comfortable with and have them weld a set. I had larger gauge chain link made and works great.
