Hi everyone,
Next month I'll work in a restaurant, I've all the routines done and I want to perform the invisible deck. I'm looking for a good way to produce it. In a parlour situation I usually have it in my sl***e and as the spectator trow me the deck I simply grab it from "thin air" extending my arms. In a strolling situation this can't be done because I won't have much space to work. I don't like the idea of putting the invisible deck in my pocket and then "make it visible". Any ideas for a deceptive production? Thanks, LT |

Trevor Dufffy's Deck Dropper sounds like just the kinda thing you need

Bill Malone On The Loose Volume 3 has a good way. What bill does he says toss the "invisible" deck in the air and at the same time you toss the real deck.

Have a paper bag. At the start, screw it up and toss it into the audience (over your shoulder) to randomly select a "volunteer". Have them remove the contents (the invisible deck) and throw your expensive prop back to you.
When the time comes to return the deck, have then toss is in the air and do the old invisible object landing in the bag gag, reach in and remove the actual deck. |

Thank you all for your suggestions.
The Deck Dropper seems a useful prop not only for the ID so I'll give it a look. The paper bag idea is nice, maybe I'll try it in a parlour situation Anyway I think I'm gonna us Bill Malone method. It seem very simple and pratical. Thank you all guys. LT |

Yeah, sorry I misunderstood your performing environment. Probably not the greatest idea for the restaurant. Must learn to read stuff properly before replying.

How about from a mesh egg bag? Hand the person the imaginary pack, they do the bit where they turn the card over, then toss the imaginary pack into the mesh egg bag and it visually reappears.

When getting the mesh egg bag you need to be aware some have bigger openings than others. You need it to take a deck you'll probably have to visit a magic shop that has one in stock and you can go in an actually see it.
Most of the mass produced mesh egg bags around now won't take a pack of cards. |

Try David Regal's "Sudden Deck" It fits in with the premise...a few years ago, I played around with an idea with Eric Jones I believe it was...and I'm not sure where he saw this, but anyways- you fold up the empty card box and place it in the spectators hand (they hold it from the bottom, with the deck resting in the crotch of their thumb, fingertips towards the ceiling). When you place it however, you ask them to relax and as you place the box, you press UP on their hand, almost holding their hand and arm up for them. As you go through the mental selection process in the invisible deck routine, you slowly release the upwards tension you have on their hand, and as you do this, the seemingly "empty" card box fills- the weight of the deck becoming gradually apparent, as if it was materializing- truly appearing in the card box. I can't stress to you how strong this is. We tried it all weekend in the shop and it never failed to elicit screams...the pressure up on their hand is the key and slow release of that pressure is essential for the maximum effect. PM me for a little more clarity if necessary.
Even without this presentation- the Sudden Deck is still a great way to introduce the Invisible Deck. Jonathan Brown |

John Carney has a method for producing a deck from "nothing" in Carneycopoa by Stephen Minch called, I think, Cool Deck. I have seen him use it in person and it looks good - but more importantly it looked magical to the rest of the audience as well.

I bought a beautiful poker size drawer box from Martin Breese a few years ago. Show the box empty, remove the ID, and then go into the routine. Place the ID back in the box, close the drawer, and the deck appears when you open it again.
From what I understand, the boxes are sold out, but I've seen a few nice ones advertised elsewhere lately. Robert |

Robert, I use a similar presentation using a poker size drawer box made by Mikame which are still readily available. Have also started using Henry Evan's "3 D Advertising" where you pop the deck off a brochure... very visual and gets a good reaction.

The Deck dropper works for me, and clears some pocket space.

That's a nice drawer box, because you can actually pull the drawer out all the way out of the box and it looks as it should. Very deceptive, with classy wood inlays. I like using it between an "imaginary deck" effect and a regular card effect - adding that mini-illusion, the visual production of the deck, seems to cleanse the spectator's palette between card effects.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.
