Just look at how many shots were put on him, and how many he saved. Too bad he couldn't score goals though. I'm cheering for the Blackhawks just because they are an original six team.

If I'm not mistaken Montreal led the Flyers in shots on goal in that series, and three shut outs isn't bad. As I said to John it is a pleasure to talk to some real hockey fans. The original six teams is a 50 year old story. You are just showing your age.

Al,
I wasn't talking about the total of shots comparison. The Habs didn't challenge him like they wished they would have. The Habs tried to play the Flyers game and lost because of it. The Flyers wanted it more, and they deserved to win that series. I'm a big enough hockey fan to admit that. Three shutouts is really good, especially in the playoffs. He was hot for the Habs series. But was only exceptional when he first replaced Boucher. Leighton had a good run when Boucher got injured in the second round. But Boucher isn't injured anymore, and had to be put back in when Leighton allowed 5 goals in 20 shots. I'll be surprised if Leighton starts the next game now that Boucher is back. "The original six teams is a 50 year old story. You are just showing your age." So! (lol) Actually, I blame Leighton's downfall mostly on the Flyers defense. I think they got too cocky and expected him to be superman.

In the last four games with Boston, and against Montreal the Flyers clearly wanted to win the most, but now they are in against the best team in hockey. Tomorrow night will tell the tail, and show us who wants the cup the most.

Either way, it's the best playoff hockey I've seen in a long time. One team will end a very long Cup drought. And, it's about time for either team.

Was Tony Espisito the goalie in the last Hawks championship season in 1961 or was he too young? I kinda think that Tony was still in high school in 1961.

Actually I believe Tony got his first and only Cup ring as the Habs back-up goaltender in 1969. He was traded to the Hawks in 1969-70 season from Montreal.
I'm a big collector of hockey memorabilia and vintage hockey cards. I have many famous rookie cards to my collection. Tony Esposito's rookie card being one of them.

Gasp! It was the legendary Glenn Hall in 1961!

Nice Card! Isn't that a 1957 Topps?
I think it's also his first card, making it his rookie card. This one I do not have. Always willing to add it to my collection though, but I've not been able to find one in good shape. This one looks like it was well taken care of.

That's not a bad price for it. I'd have to read the description of it to find out more about the shape it's in, and at least see a scan of the back of the card as well. But, from the picture the card looks to be in pretty good condition considering it's age.
$250 is not a bad asking price. I've seen some sell for $300-350. I've also seen some sell for around $150-175. It all depends on the shape and condition of the card. The book price has this at $250 on the low end and $400 on the high end. When I get more time, I'll have to check out that site. I usually buy my cards in person at tradeshows and conventions, that way I can look at them before I decide. Most times dealers are willing to negotiate if they know that you know what you are talking about.

Oh, and the other thing you have to watch out for is counterfits. believe me, there are many of them out there. The older cards especially. One of the reasons why I am careful of buying off the internet. I have occassionally, but from trusted sources.
The only way to tell if it's a counterfeit is by examining it in person. There are a few telltale signs that can't be noticed by looking at a scan of it.

It is his rookie card because there is no other card of him before this year. This is considered his rookie card because it's the first card of him made.
It's like my Tony Esposito RC. Even though his rookie year was with Montreal. They didn't produce a card of him until he was with the Hawks. Tony's rookie card depicts him in the Hawks uniform.

Here's a little history. 1951 was the first year that hockey cards were produced. They were produced by Parkhurst. Even though many players played years before 1951 all the cards in the 1951 Parkhurst set are considered Rookie cards.
They also only had the rights to some players. Plus, they could only produce teams such as Montreal, Toronto, and Detroit. My apologies to Al Angello for taking the thread way off topic. Let's get back to Flyers VS Hawks now.

Since my day job kept me from watching last night it sounded like both teams left their defense in the locker rooms. I hope games 2-7 (yes I hope it goes 7 so I won't be tempted to watch the NBA) show some more.

I'm enjoying the conversation. You and John know so much more than I do. I've only been a fan since 74, or 75. I used to love watching Kate Smith sing God bless America and the Flyers would win. They brought that woman out in a wheelchair to win games. After her death they played her recording of God bless America to win games. I don't think they still do it.

Kate Smith is an icon. I think the NHL should make a place for her in the Hall Of Fame. The Flyers still use her for important home games accompanied by Lori Hart. Not sure if that's her first name, but it's something like that.
Ah yes! Bobby Clarke, Bill Clement, Bill Barber, Bob Kelly, and Bernie Parent. Oh, and let's not forget Dave Schultz. Man, I hated them back then.(lol) You jumped on at a good time. That's when hockey was "hockey".

The Kate Smith era was amazing. When the Flyers needed a big win, they brought her in, and she worked magic. Man those were good days!
