John showed me some of this material while riding together on a NYC subway to my lecture at Tannen's. Trust me, it's worth the wait. Very, very smart stuff.

Sounds good Doc.
I'm eager to receive my pre-order copy too. Currently, I'm pretty fond of Asi Wind's excellent version and would love to see how John's new Flip Shift compare. Bosco |

Hey guys -
I have been just as excited as everyone to receive this, and am really happy with how it turned out. All orders have shipped and are on their way. Flip Shift is simply the name of the technique, which is described in the ad copy at http://www.JohnBorn.com. I'm sure you will find it to be a very strong addition to your arsenal. Also, for those that haven't seen it I have another new product called Change, which is exclusively available at my website. You can find the promo video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1T73lwoTF4 Thanks again for your interest. Best, John Born |

Just got it yesterday. Very professional looking booklet. Great photographs and crystal clear instructions. The "flip shift" is the main focus of the book. This is a very fun move to do actually and is VERY easy. For people who gave up on the meant to be system because of the difficulty and alterations that were needed for the box, this is what you need. You can use this for all of the routines in the "meant to be" book that uses that system. Everything is tight and there is no fear of dropping or fumbling cards during the actual "move". The cards are held securely the entire time. There are no wholes cut out of the box this time, just a normal box that can be examined. Also there are many many details covered in the booklet about when, where, how, to do the move. Very detailed.
There are 2 routines in the book. "Influenced" can be performed with minimal practice if your familiar with a mem deck, very easy and the actual effect is incredible. Def gonna be using this right away. Also the ACAAN is pretty dag on sweet too. I know like many, I was impatient, but ultimately it was worth the wait. Highly recommended. |

So it appears that to get the most out of this book you also need MTB?

I wouldn't say that. Meant to be has ton's of routines that can utilize the flip shift though. This new booklet offers 2 routines that you can use the flip shift in. Also, the flip shift will open up tons of idea's for those of you that use a memorized deck. A couple of these are mentioned in the booklet. I would say that to get additional ideas for further use of this move, go ahead and get His excellent book.."meant to be"

I just got my copy this morning, AMAZYING !!!
After I have done with it, it reminds me of Asi Wind's ACAAN. Since I only went to Asi's lecture but didn't buy his booklet "Chapter one", I am wondering whether both methods are the same?? (I hardly remember Asi's ACAAN, I guess I have to buy it later on) Arthur |

Thanks for the kind words. Glad this project has finally been released.
Yes, outside of similarities in the initial peek, this technique is very different from Asi's (in handling/movements, blocking, and motivation). For those that are not familiar with his work I recommend you check it out as well! All the best, John B |

Read through this last night and this morning. The instructions and photos are extremely clear, leaving no doubt as to how this works. There are plenty of ideas concerning blocking and motivating moves which are clever and should make this technique invisible in a variety of settings. The routines are powerful. I love "Insight," in particular, which makes excellent use of the Flip Shift in a fun prediction routine with multiple climaxes. The routining helps ensure that the audience won't get ahead of you. Highly recommended.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

Anybody playing with this yet. Been doing the "influence" routine ever since I got it. Great stuff man. Don't forget to check out "meant to be" for a bunch of other routines that you can put this to use in. Having a blast with it.

Well, what else to say: John, you are a genius Although I liked the book very much (well written, nice pictures and explanations...), I preferred MTB. I mean the move in MTB is, for me, the most deceptive for an ACAAN effect, and despite the advertisement, easier to execute than the Flip Shift. Indeed, the move in the flip shift brings, in my humble opinion, too much suspicion in spectator’s minds, whereas MTB is invisible, really invisible, and the motivation for it is easier to execute (shaking of the left hand above the deck as I you want the card to move inside the box). The flip shift is a two-phase movement and even if it is well performed in a continuing action, it is seems a bit weird for the spectators, and you have to do the dirty work while doing another thing (John is giving some great advices to do this work invisibly although).
I did a test during one week, after having practiced the flip shift (I already performed with MTB before). In this test, I asked 2 magicians, 4 friends (laymen), and 4 strangers to tell me the most impossible looking effect: MTB (A) or flip shift (B). My friends, MTB is “winning” with 7/10 (2 magicians: 1 A and 1 B / 4 friends: 4 A / strangers: 3 A, 1 B). And you, what do you think about the differences in the two methods in terms of blocking, motivation? Which one will you use: do you stick with MTB or go for the flip shift, or maybe a combination?

I love the cleanliness of the Flip Shift - no markings on the cards, etc. I persoanlly think people pay little attention when you are getting the cards out of the box, so either method will work. I have not performed either one in a professional show yet but after practicing with Flip shift, it is more likely to go into my show. Vijay
