After many months of threatening to do so I have taken two weekend off to go through all my stuff Tricks, Prizes, games, handouts everything and get myself better organized so I can just roll on up (with new box I am making) pull out everything I need use it and put it back all ready for the next show.
In the past I haven't really taken much time to sort myself out and as such I am always having to reset tricks and having to dash to places to get more prizes balloons etc. Has anyone got any tips on sorting out my stuff. The feedback I get is great and I get a lot of re-bookings but I just wish I didn't have to turn up and panic about where the pin is for my clatter box. Thanks in advance |

Howdy Adam, welcome to the Café and the kids entertainers area! You'll likely get a lot of good ideas from folks here. There's actually a section devoted entirely to props and organizing called "Where to put it all"
I try to be ready at all times to do my act. I have one main act that I do and I reload and reset everything as I'm packing up, leaving a party. If for some reason I can't, I reset as soon as I get home as I'm putting away my stuff. I do the same with my costumes. If some item needs washing, I put it in the washer immediately and I keep my costumes together, including shoes, ready to go at short notice. The only problem I run into is making sure I'm supplied on balloons. I'm not a balloon guy mostly, but I do include them in the act. If I'm running low I take a mental note of it and get some more before my next show. A real balloon guy would order them by the case and make sure he was well stocked on the many varieties and colors, but I don't do the fancy stuff so if I have a bag of 260's and a pump I'm good to go. I've been called by moms who have had an entertainer cancel at the last minute and my ability to be there in 30 minutes (unless I have another engagement)has made me some money and some happy, relieved, birthday moms over the years. Being prepared cuts back on the pre-show jitters. If I know I'm going to open my box and there won't be any bad surprises I can relax and focus on the act and the kids. |

Welcome to the magic Café Adam
I am no one to give advise on organizating your stuff, but the one thing that I do after every show is I pack for the next show. My brief case is ready to go all the time, so hypothetically if I get a call I can be ready to go after I wash up, and change my clothes.

I found out the hard way, be ready to go! I had a call on a Saturday, no less, a magician was a no show for a party and they needed someone now. They were willing to pay extra, tough to say no. I had just finish my booked jobs and was on the off mode. I quickly packed, not very well I learned during the middle of my show, and went for it. Lesson learned, you're not done until you have reset, be ready to go!
