Does anyone make a rattle box that you can make stop rattling while in spectators hand?
I'm thinking it would need to be electronic and controlled with a remote or something? |

I've never seen a rattle box that would rattle unless you knew how to operate it. It's hard to accidentally apply enough pressure on the Viking model and have it rattle when you didn't want it to. Maybe I'm missing something here. Handled normally, you can shake my rattle box all you want to and it won't make a sound.

I think he wants the spectator to rattle it, and then have the rattle stop while the spectator is shaking the box.

Craig Brooks at Atlantis Magic custom makes rattle boxes (sized for a coin or a ring) that will accomplish what dooblehorn is wanting to do...relatively inexpensive, too!

I thought I might be able to help. My name is Craig and it is my Rattlebox up for discussion and I thought I should make some clarifications about my 21st Century Rattlebox.
First, there is a review from a Café member who bought one of the boxes. Search "rattlebox" and you should find a review under 21st Century Rattlebox. The ambitious 21st Century title is because all that I have seen before in the way of rattleboxes (and I have had ones dating back to the 1930s) are a consistent size. Mine is much smaller and that is the main reason I designed it. I always loved the idea of sound long after a coin has vanished and that principle has been used to great effect in other tricks and gimmicks, but the size always bothered me. Why a box so large for items so small? So I set about decreasing the size of the box and found that the method of the prior boxes seemed to be at fault. They needed to be larger to accomodate the method for the noise. The benefit of the rethinking of the method lead me to a box that can be shaken by the spectator both before and after the vanish. To MaxfieldsMagic I would like to say thank you. I took another look at my description in my site and found I did not mention this benefit and it has now been changed. I have also changed the photos in the site because the boxes I now make are taller to better accomodate taller rings. To Dooblehorn in answer to your original question, the box can be shaken before and after but I and my customers are in complete agreement that you do not want the sound to vanish as the box is being shaken. To do this would make the gimmick obvious. All that is necessary is that they be able to shake it and hear the sound which is not possible with other boxes. Feel free to take a look at the box in my museum at atlantismagic.com in the gift shop. In the description are reviews which may further clarify any questions you might have. Take care, Craig |

Hello Craig
Do you still make the smaller (thinner) 21st Century Rattle Boxes for coins? Julie |

Hello Julie. The box that I make now is still approximately the same length and width, but I started making it slightly taller (about a 1/4") to accomodate rings other than wedding bands.
If it is important to you that a box be that original thickness I can make it but I wanted the boxes to be more of a general purpose like that of the original (classic) boxes. Even with the slight height difference it is still about 1/2 the size (and shorter than) the classic boxes. Craig |

Hey, thanks to all above for your input...
Hi, Pete, I'll check that thread out... Jim you are correct, that is what I wanted, now seems like a dumb idea, haha Craig you make a very good point that I did not consider, rattle disappearing while spec shakes does kind of make the method obvious. I was wondering whether your rattle box was tall enough for a ring, so that answers that. Julie already PM'd me recommendations for your rattle box, I think I'll give that a whirl. I DO love this place, you all are always so very helpful, I appreciate your suggestions...now to find the other half, which is making the ring vanish, and I know there are 10,000 ways to do that...I have Sander's Any Ring, I suppose that's probably fine. |

Tstark, your new rattle box looks very interesting. I had not heard of it until this thread. I did know a guy about 40 years ago that had a tiny rattle box that he carried in his pocket all the time. It only took a penny or dime and was made of walnut. I've since made a faux rattle box out of a plastic 12 pill Bayer Asprin box that I carry around most of the time. Your box looks like a big leap forward for the effect.
BTW, if you used to sell/buy on ebay under the Atlantis Magic name, they we have done a lot of business in the past. My ebay name is dakotaj Great looking website!

I used mine recently during a radio show appearance and it worked out great! Thanks again Craig! -Daniel Martin |

I purchased a 21st Century rattle box from Craig a couple of years ago. Its the absolute best rattle box there is! In my opinion, nothing comes even close to this rattlebox! It works perfectly every time, and everything is self contained. If you need a rattlebox then just purchase Craig's, I guarentee you will not be disappointed.
