Well, this has been a fun read. Knowing absolutely nothing about Tarot, with but a mild interest, it seems relatively clear to my untrained eye who the professionals are (and aren't)... Tony, your posts are incredibly interesting (amongst other people's), thank you.

The problem is that sometimes, the Death card is instantly interpreted by the sitter as meaning Death. They've seen the old movies where a gyspy turns over a card and gasps as the Death card is revealed, closely followed by the prediction coming true.
Yes, during a longer reading you have time to explain the true meaning of the card, but during a short reading at a party, a few quick reassuring words regarding the card's true meaning may only serve to make the sitter think that you're glossing over the 'true' meaning. This can pray on the sitter's mind for days, weeks, even years and should never be taken lightly. I may be wrong, but I feel this is the reason that Ron Martin sometimes removes the card. Sometimes I wear nothing but skimpy underwear when giving readings. |

Thanks much, Tony! I'll certainly let you know when its out (it's set for next year). Magic and magicians play a major part in it as well as in the follow-up book, which is actually a prequel.
But even before that I hope to make an announcement regarding how I intend to use a portion of my profits from the book to help disadvantaged kids while, at the same time, furthering the cause and the future of magic. Best! gary |

Daniel has shared his transcripts here... they are awful I wouldnt entertain the idea of buying anything from him. by the way, the only great thing about this thing is the title.. is kind of redundant Fake psychic.. ¨And that's a self-portrait of himself, by himself."
on the other hand, tony´s thoughts on readings are way more impressive on this same thread, I would listen to what he has to said on the subject. |

Thank you. ------------ Kevin: In my Jun 5, 2010 3:57pm post, I addressed my opinion on that issue. Venue (to include length of readings and type of function), tarot deck being used, guests, experience and preference of reader. These are the main points I see a influencing what is in the deck. Personally, I don't remove cards. But I do sometimes move to a different deck (depending on the factors mentioned above). There are a lot of decks out there, and many have different names for the cards, in some the “death’ card is call “Reincarnation”, “Rebirth”, “Change”, “Transformation”, and the imagery reflects the different title. There are choices. As for Ron’s removing cards, I respect his decision to do so. Ron is a brilliant reader and teacher. But I am not Ron Martin. What fits him, his reading style, and his clientele and venues, may not fit me and mine. We all have to grow and develop and follow our own paths. ----------- Thank you Gary, and thank you Alex. I also don't get this
from Normandeau site: A few years back I was only interested in making money. I fell to the dark side and for a while I was working in advertising - using my powers for evil... and now he is promoting a fake psychic book for riches? |

I'm a fake, and yet I am quite good.
Everyone had the chance to prove themselves. In the end I have the signed URI spoon. What does that mean? Stay tuned. You'll find out. |

Thank you for the clarification Tony. Personally I don't see an enormous difference in the great scheme of things between removing the Death card and swapping to a deck without the Death card. The reasons for doing so are ultimately the same. I guess if you're a "real" reader (rather than a magician who does readings for entertainment) then there's a very important distinction. But for the purposes of entertaining at a party, not so much. I understand that a "real" reader will feel the reading experience will be 'incomplete' with a card missing, but for many entertainers it will be no more important than performing a card trick with the Queen of Diamonds missing. This is not necessarily how I feel, I'm just making the point that many people on a magic forum will feel this way. |

Kevin:
I use different decks depending on the venue. The deck I use for colleges is a modern deck and does depict a bit of nudity. That particular deck would not be the best choice for the Rotary Club. There is a different deck that I use for high tech groups, the imagery is more relatable. Different decks can have “themes’ that fit certain groups better than others. As for removing cards from the deck, I have said since the beginning it is a personal choice. I prefer to use a complete deck. Just as I won’t type up a story with a keyboard that is missing letters, I won’t do a reading with an deck that is missing cards. Tony |

I used to do quick three card spreads at cocktail parties and outdoors events. I seriously never had a problem with the death card. After all its supposed to be the reader who interprets the cards no? One of the things that really impressed me was how "accurate" even these simple readings seemed to be. The tarot deck left sitter after sitter stunned. I say tarot deck because I just follwed the system. The tarot is really an impressive piece of work. I think its a real shame when anyone uses it without really learning the system even just for entertainment. The problem is not with any particular card its with not learning how to use them correctly. Instead it is seen as a prop. I also combined it with websters quick and effective cold readings using palmistry and his quick and effective readings with numerology for slightly longer readings. I started off with numerous courses on tarot including Joe Riding's. However I found a cheap book in a bargain bookshop for £2.99 and it blew all of them away. I had all Herb Dewey's works and numeous others. However as Tony has said its a personal choice. |

If I was having a reading done for me and at least one "negative" card didn't show up, I would doubt the validity of the reading.

I would still recommend the Webster and even Joe Riding's course, but this book gave me a brilliant system. I used to give myself a reading everyday or reading for someone else for about a month. I found it in a bargain book shop. But I am sure there are many titles that are good. There are a few used copies here for £5.99 amazon.co.uk And here marelibri.com |

Daniel,
I don't know why, but my Norton 360 doesn't trust the exe-file and won't allow me to open it. I'm sorry. I wanted to deliver an unbiased and honest review but there seems to be something about the file that isn't trustworthy. The message I get (translated from dutch) is that the file behaves suspiciously. I might be missing out on something great and really useful or I might have downloaded some kind of trojan horse. I guess I won't find out. Terribly sorry, Daniel. --edit-- I tried to download it again just to see what Norton had to say. It talks about an insight network threat (WS.Reputaion.1) whatever that may be. Anyway, the file gets deleted by Norton immediately after downloading so I don't even have a chance of opening it. And I am not willing to turn off my protection to open this.
