Really? Not impressed. Nothing like producing the "gimmick" as if it's magic.
Never have a seen a better/worse example of "look how cleverly I'm hiding it."

I don't think that some folks get Netcheporenko. His magic is from another era and a culture that Westerners don't usually share.
To know what he does and how it's done is basically one thing. To see him do it and dazzle an audience made up of mostly members of his homeland is a wonderful thing. Ed Sullivan was a horrible host in many folks opinions, but he had a natural way of making you feel comfortable and nostalgic. Netcheporenko is like that. While not to our tastes mostly, to his audience what he does makes them happy on emotional levels we generally can't understand. See him for what he is, an ethnic performer of Magical things. Some Japanese and Chinese traditional Magic can foster the same criticism by the Western mindset. I mean how many bowls of water being produced, fans, and silky flourishes can we all take. But to their audience, they are the "Princes" of Magic and what these Magicians do makes their audience feel good inside. Just go with the flow a bit. We are all different. Enjoy that difference, don't be-little it. You never know when you may never get to experience it again. All art changes as tastes change. Now, you wanna see me pull a rabbit out of a hat? ;o) dsalley13 |

To the people that are not impressed...can't you at least see the creativity in this act! He is producing cards with his feet!...amongst some other outrageous stuff. I enjoyed it very much...I was not analyzing "how he did it".

To those who didn't like it, what makes this different to any other good 'sucker' trick? He lets the audience guess the method then sweeps the carpet out from under them. Leaving the kernel of doubt in their minds, "Was there someone else ther or not..."

It has nothing to do with "how over used it is" and entirely to do with "how obvious it is." The only thing close to "good" was when he was able to hold the sheet to the side and she was clearly not in it. Though this was probably not discernible to layman compared the display that always immediately followed showing the sheet to his other side when she would be back in the sheet, and as such, it really did not add much, if anything, to the performance, from a lay perspective. It was just another "I don't know where she is, but I do know that's how he did everything else in the act" moment. Utilizing an idea like this briefly and subtly would be one thing, but building an entire act around it makes it painfully obvious. Building an act around producing parasols, no matter how many, can still be done without make the method obvious. What he did was equivalent to showing the zombie gimmick with the ball attached part way through his act, and then trying to pass off hiding it behind his back while he showed the foulard on both sides as magic. It was only slightly more "magical" to the audience as it was just a huge *** zombie gimmick.

GDW...my apologies. I clicked on the link and thought it was something I just viewed a few days prior...without actually watching it. But I still think the video in question is very good. It is creative, and he does cancel out obvious methods during the routine, which in my opinion makes for good magic. I know as the girl appears it seems as though he is giving it away. I still enjoyed it.
Here is the clip I was referring to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPQfzlG55......embedded You will see this guy produce cards with his feat. There is some weird stuff going on here...but never the less...incredibly creative. Rich B. |

Magic is either entertainment or a puzzle and sometimes both. I enjoyed watching this from the beginning to the end.
The puzzle, for me, was secondary. |
