Translate his patters is gonna be very difficult. He has a very special use of the lenguaje and a very special sens of humor. Here, in Spain, Luis is better known as an Stand up comedÃan than as a magician. His magic is great but his tales are even better. There are very funny surrealistic and poétic tales. He has a very complex and elaborated use of the laguaje. I think that translate his patter keeping all the power is gonna be imposible, he is allways playing with double sense and double meaning of the words. I´ll try to help to.

We don't need to translate his patter exactly as its never a good idea to copy someone's style and script. What we need is a basic translation. Since his patter is very creative, may be we can apply some pointers in our routines. For example, his 3 fly patter,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUzhignyg7c He says he is going to hipnotize the whole audience, and make them "blink" at the same time. That is what allows him to move a coin invisibly, the fact that everyone blinks at once, allowing him to move the coin at the exact moment. It's great because when he goes through the typical phase in which a coin travels visibly, only to "go back", he uses the patter to his advantage ("Oh, did you see the last one go? that means you're waking up... I'll hipnotize you again...and try to make you blink at once again...did you see it come back? That's because you're sleeping again!) (From http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=3) So, its a great patter. We can similarly take his one routine at a time and discuss its gist. What do you think? |

That is not his real patter for the three fly, that is the one he had to make for TV. The real one is much better. I saw the real one may be one year ago. Let me try to remember and reconstruct...
In the real one he explains that finding treasures is very difficult because the treasures are changing places all the time. Treasures change places when the human bean blinks. Blinking is like giving an aplause with your eyes, the problem is that is a very silent aplause. We blink 13 times in a minute. That means that every minute there are 13 moments of our life that you don´t own. It is only a moment, yes, but in a whole life it could be more than 9 hours. Every body knows that when you die you see your life as a movie. The blinks are proyected in that moment!!! There is a good abstract of one´s life. There are some sweet moments like when you kiss a lady and you close your eyes and very difficult moments like when you go to the bath room and have to do a big effort. Every body has an own blinking pattern and only sometimes happen that two people blink at the same time. A moment they shared in the dark. Some times three or five people blinks at the same time. That is really rare but is possible. And sometimes happen something really magical, statistically possible, the whole world blinks at the same time -is not as difficult because one half of the planet is sleeping at that moment- that is called total blinking eclipse. Is more often than you think. When the whole world blinks at the same time all the treasures change places, and that is why treasures are so difficult to find.... I can see in your eyes that you don't believe me. Ok, I will make a demonstration. I have this three coins, three pieces of treasure. Now I´m gonna try to synchronize your blinking pattern (HE DROPS A COIN IN A GLASS AND HE BEGINS TO DO HIS THREE FLY) ¡done! now I just create a partial blinking eclipse. I Just have to wait for your next blink and I will change the place of the coins in a very obvious way, but you are not gonna see it. One, two three... first one (FIRST FLY) Have you see anything? Nothing. Thay is because you shared a moment in the dark. Next one. One, two, three... (SECOND ONE. HE MAKES VERY FUNNY FACES WAITING FOR THE MOMENT OF THE BLINKING AND EVERY BODY LAUGHS) Do not laugh, or you will unsynchronize. Next One, two, three... (THEN HE PUTS CHANGE THE PLACE OF THE COIN IN A VERY OBVIOUS WAY. EVERY BODY LAUGHS AGAIN) Ok you are a little unsynchronize, just wait for the next blink. (LAST COIN) Perfect!!! That is what I remember of the original patter. Please sorry for my english and for the omissions. If somebody can complet the tale or correct it, please do it. And of course, If LUIS reads this and want me to take it of from here I´ll do it. I know him and I think is not gonna be a problem as while as nobody copy it. |

Haha, "do not laugh or you will unsynchronize" - I love that line.
Thank you both for the translation - it's a very interesting take on 3fly. I doubt anyone could copy a patter like that and pull it off like Luis! That is an awful lot of patter before the magic starts but as he is a comedian he can pull it off. I can't see anything morally wrong with translating his patter at all; it's on youtube just like any English speaking magician. I just absolutely love Luis's magic and would like to know a little more about his style. I understand not all the jokes will translate, but the general theme is very interesting. |

Thus guy is amazing.
He must have studied with Tamariz, or is at least highly influenced by him. |

If you like his work, you can see here some of his spots on the spanish show El hormiguero. This show is a daily Spanish live Tv show in prime time. Luis uses to do magic or stand up comedy. You can see here some of his magic. A very little part of his has done. It took me some time to put them together. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for posting those. Spent most of yesterday watching everything and being totally in awe of his showmanship. Also, what an absolutely absurd television show, with those puppets giggling in the background... amazing.
Hard to pick a favorite. They are all equally entertaining. Love the candle, copper/silver. Of course Denzel and little turtle was priceless. His okito box set was a real inspiration. |

Not special patter in that routine. He just describes what he does, but he describes in a very funny way, using the language in a very clever, smart and inteligent way. No special translation. Not special story. Just a precious and very personal use of the words.

Have you seen this one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm2uExkzC5o This is an interesting one. Very unknown. He talks about treasures that are buried in the air, where no body uses to search. |
