Just curious if anyone owns one or currently uses this in their performance?

I have one in my collection -- primary as a curiosity -- but don't use it. It is the sort of thing that may have been "ordinary" many years ago, but today is an anachromism. It might not be out of place be used in a recreation of a Victorian seance, for example.

...Looks more like a dustpan to me.

Don't know how such a device could be updated to look like something contemporary (or maybe I'm just lacking in imagination). On the other hand there are all sorts of props that provide the same function (switching billets) that appear much more "ordinary" and thus more practical for use today ; e.g., the OM box, the beautiful box currently available from Max Krause, billet switching trays (an older device, but much more "ordinary" looking), transparent change bag, etc.

I was wondering the same thing, Dick. The ladle idea has been already been "updated" out of any practical existence.

Far more practical is "Dr. Bob's Billet Changing Bed Pan." Comes in handy for those guys working the nursing home circuit. People won't have to leave the room during the show and no one will feel like examining the billets afterwards.

If there's a "line" somewhere...I now think you're on the other side, Ian.
