The first guy was great - maybe he's got a Tibetan relative. Pity about the small audience. The second guy was really good and had some 'personality' which is something a lot of beatboxers seem to lack, imo. The third was kinda cute until the dad said 'good job' - a peeve.

It has always amazed what people will do just to get noticed. I make people laugh to get noticed, but I get paid to do it.

^I know several beatboxers in the UK alone that make good $ from performing, more than many full time magicians.

What type of venues do they perform in? How long is their show? How often do they perform? Do they have paying gigs for beatboxes in the US? You know I started out as a stand up comedian, before all the comedy clubs went out of business.

At least he is a real musician, and not just a looser with a mike.

Would I be going out on a limb to suggest that you are not a fan of these 'losers' with mics?

They perform in clubs, bars, festivals, concerts. The same sort of places as many other musicians.

I'm not intimately familiar with their performance fees, but I have a friend of a friend who paid booked a beatboxer for £800, it was mid-week if I remember correctly. Much like other performers, the fee varies with an individuals skill, the local demand, their ability to market themselves etc.

How often do they perform? About the same amount as a magician and a singer.

Beatboxing is often suggested to be the 5th element of hip-hop. Hip-Hop is of American origin and I have it on good authority that America has everything and that it is bigger and better than anywhere else. I would imagine this extends to paying beatboxing gigs.

I can't believe I've spent time replying to these ridiculous questions... but I do have a smile on my face. Do you have any more?

Beatboxers are "loosers"?

Why?

I don't usually address specific comments, but really Al? I am kind of surprised at your comment. You're entitled to your thoughts of course... I am just surprised.

While I enjoy the guy with the flute, I have been really amazed and awed by some of the talent I have seen in films from various beatbox competitions. I am not one who goes so far as to say ANYTHING is artful... While in the strictness of definitions wrapping an island in pink plastic may be "Art" I am not sure many would find it artful.... But-

These folks really do seem like talented musicians to me. Knowing that you appreciate artful risktakers in life, magic, and juggling- I am really a little surprised that you would classify someone else's talent as one for "Losers." (Of course I may have also distorted the degree of your intent in the comment as well.)

I think that we magic folks are, as a sterotypical whole, very peculiar in the artistic world.

You are right I don't understand it, and should keep my mouth shut.
