I enjoyed the trilogy, Re-Animator, Bride of, and Beyond. And I was looking forward to the 4th installment, but rumor has it that Stuart Gordon dropped the project.

I'd rather discuss Jeffrey Combs though, greatest and most prolific horror actor of our times.

Hey tony,
thanx for the link..

I have only seen the first part of re-animator and like it.. dr. west acting is cool.. I like the scientific/analytic thinking he is with..

anyhow: greatest director from my point of view is george a. romero.. at least I am a zombie-man.. ;-)

I've been a Romero fan since the 70's. BUT the last 2 movies,????? Diary of the Dead, and the one he just released, Survival of the Dead? I'm not sure if anything is going on other than, get some money while I can...

I am interested in his upcoming book, its on pre-order at Amazon.

I liked diary and survival al lot.. 1st. time that he used the same characters a 2nd time.. very cool effects (think about the acid-scene in diary or the opening scene in survival with the head-blow e.g.). I also liked the short scenes with you-tube in diary.. gives a nice strategical frame.. similar to dawn with the tv at the beginning and when they made it to the mall.. will look at amazon for his book. thanx for the advice.. Smile

Just understood that you have not seen them yet. so my personal adivce: take the $ and get them !!!!

really cool special effects. you will like that.. made skillfull and also humerous.. also it is nice to see that in a way it is upgraded to our times as you-tube-flicks are enbedded.. only a little but it makes it more realistic - cause after the zombie-apocalypse the www would be the only medium that would work..

This is an awesome special effect for that particular situation that calls for something out of the ordinary!

I have seen Diary of the Dead, and was less than impressed. It seemed like a remake of the previous year’s ZOMBIE DIARIES (made by someone else). The concept was the same. And if I recall, Romero had a lesser role in this film (Diary), he was more of an advisor and producer for the kids who brought the project. I could be mistaken as it has been a while since I saw the commentary track. If you like movies along this line, a much better film with a better cast, storyline, and one that keeps your interest, watch QUARENTINE. It is the best movie of the “video diary” story telling format that I have seen. For me, this was not a Romero picture, it was not his story telling method, his inner dialog was not there, and it did not follow his structure. The only thing it had in common with Romero’s work was the zombies.

I have not seen Survival yet. It has not been released here (in the US) and won’t be until the end of August 2010. I’ve had it on pre-order since it was announced though.

For me, the best Romero zombie movie was DOTD.

Thank you again for your thoughts on these films.

Pleasure to discuss the movies with you.

well, tastes are different. dotd was nice. liked frankenstein and roads a lot. also nice gory. the only romero-flick I really critizise is land. I do not like zombies getting smart. takes away the dumb-zombie-thing. movie was not bas though - but this element of the movie was not my preference. ont he other hand I have no prob with fast zombies like in the remake of dotd.

zombie-diarys I also liked. but less tension/dynamic from my point of view than in romero-diary. also less gory. but as said in the beginning: views/tastes are different.

will check for QUARENTINE. thanks for the advice.

do you also like trash-zombies like the fulci-ones? also nice: pot-zombies and redneck-zombies (troma). very trashy and humerous. at least not anybodys kind of movie. anyhow: I liked it.

“Land” was part “Thunder Dome”, part “Logan’s Run”, and part “Day of the Dead”. The zombies getting smarter what the subplot of “Day” and just carried out to its evident outcome in “Land”.

As for Fluci, I am a fan. I saw ZOMBIE in a theater back in 1979, they “eye” scene is my favorite effect scene in all of cinema. The Zombie vs Shark scene was also great.

Troma, some movies are fun, some are real good, and some are garbage. I’ve had a relationship with Troma since Toxie was born. RNZ was ok, not really a zombie film though, Rabid Grannies (distributed by Troma) was much, much better. Over the past few years, I’ve written notes her (probably in spooky) about Poultrygeist. Had things gone just a little differently, I may have been in that film.

Well only bob got smarter in day. that was ok for me cause it was due to conditioning through frankenstein. but in land it was a sort of evolution within the zombies - and that is what I critizise.. zombies have to be dump - otherwise they are not real.. ;-) it is the brainless mass of elements that makes their characteristic - the same as with the majority of humans.. *smile*

yeah. shark and eye-scene were great in zombie. I also liked seven gates of hell. especially the beginning ("you have been warned" - so torturing is all right. I really laughed at this part..). nice gory, too.

absolutely agree with troma. rnz was great - really laughed a lot.. real trash. toxy was ok in a way.. sergent kabukiman nypd has a great titel but is not worth watching at least. rabid grannies is cult. much different than almost all other troma releases. looks more like a higher budget movie. nice gory and veeery humerous. do not know what they they in english but in german there is the phrase: "that parasite of a priest". really funny.

cool that you almost made it into Poultrygeist. what was the situation that you came near?

also like mothersday (wasn´t that by kaufman, too?) blood sucking freaks and men-eater/anthropophagus. expecially the scene with the embryo. really taboo-breaking. did you see porn of the dead? from my point of view the crossover of porn and gore is the future. at least both is hardcore.. ;-)

28 days Later and the even better sequel 28 weeks Later are the best zombie films Ive seen. Although they aren't really zombies but infected with the "rage".

Brilliant stylish movies.

Also liked the 28 movies. 1st. good improvisation with a well made tension development. 2nd I liked even more.. especially the scene with napalm within the streets of london - great effect. actually I am selling a 0,80 x 1,80 m original textil (not paper) poster of 28 weeks later on ebay.. ;-)
