I bought it and have been meaning to post but haven't had the time to read the whole book through. In short, it's a mini-book by Bannon at a reasonable price, so if you are a fan it's a no-brainer. "Megawave" is extremely simple in its handling and clever in its construction. The linguistic play at the end helps mask the method, which is something Bannon does from time to time. There's also a shortened version of "Royal Scam" without the twisting sequence and a few more variations on other effects as well, like Nick Trost's "Matching the Cards" and Paul Harris's "Grasshopper." As he is fond of doing, Bannon identifies a few concepts and handlings and then applies them in different ways throughout the book. Bannon's one of the best magic writers out there, and while this book doesn't contain anything written in the entertaining, story-like style he sometimes uses, it's still a very nicely done work of small packet card magic.

Just on his name alone I would have ordered this. But, I also have quite a few of his earlier releases. At least to me, Bannon's name means quality, hard hitting, commercial magic.
Now, will we EVER see Cardzilla?? Ahimsa, Vlad |

Mine just arrived today.
73 pages of pure pleasure and fire-hot magic.
"Is there any point to which you would wish to draw my attention?"
"To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time." "The dog did nothing in the night-time." "That was the curious incident," remarked Sherlock Holmes. |

Vlad,
You nailed it! I ordered my copy last week without the benefit of a review or description of the effects as soon as I became aware that it was available. When it comes to card magic, Bannon is at the top of the list for me, along with Lorayne, Trost and Curry. Can't wait to receive my copy this week. I know it will rock! John: Thanks for bringing Mega Wave to my attention with your post. Angelo |

Okay, look at it this way. There's a demo of the main effect which is fantastic. If you were to buy that effect alone, it would probably cost about $15 -- What most packet tricks go for. But in this case, you are not only getting the excellent Mega Wave effect but also a bunch of other VERY GOOD effects. I think it's a steal at $15. I also think Dr. Mister Fantasy is a steal at $35. Mr. Bannon prices things extremely fairly (too fairly?), I think.

Cameron,
Yep. Viewed your demo of Mega Wave after I ordered. Nice job. First time I have seen you perform. The effect does look great! I have found all of Mr. Bannon's materials to be terrific values. I feel that his prices are always more than fair. John: Take the plunge and buy it. You can't go wrong with the combination of Bannon quality and $15. My copy of Mega Wave shipped last week, but I am still waiting .... somewhat impatiently Angelo |

The demo by Mr. Cameron Francis is only one killer effect in a book that has many...
Bannon is solid gold.

Mine just arrived today and I will echo Vlad's sentiments. If you are a fan of John Bannon or of packet tricks in general, you owe it to yourself to pick this up.

What I love about this book is also what frustrates me about this book and that is I have NO clue which to learn first! These are ALL BEGGING to be performed. Ahimsa, Vlad PS: I know that many are enthusiastic about the Stone book. But, for me at least, Mega Wave will undoubtedly be my pick for the book of the year - unless Richard Kaufman actually gets either the Jennings or Miller books done, or, Mr. Bannon hits us with Cardzilla. I know that Mr. Bannon occasionally visits here, so, sir, if you are reading this, a DEEP bow of gratitude for a truly great work!! |

Steven Keyl is a tough critic, and he is into this book. You have Cameron Francis here lauding the book - and his presentation of the book's first effect is GORGEOUS as you know. Angelo called it "vintage Bannon" - and that my friend means this is TRULY an excellent book. My rather uncharacteristically short "G E T I T" is the least eloquent response So, anymore thoughts? Yes, have you bought it yet? Tell you what Salby, if you do not like this book, I will buy it from you - I am deadly serious about this. I have a magician friend of intermediate skill who would love such a gift. But I am wagering that I will be buying a copy, but not yours, because I am a bettin' man and I'm bettin' you're going to love this book. I am not a rich person Salby; not even rich enough to be poor, so, this offer is truly serious and one I cannot afford yet WOULD honor - I never welch - but, if you know John Bannon's work, you will love this book. |

For those who own the book: what is your opinion of the psychology used in "Fractal Jacks"?
|

@Your Thinking Cap
The negligible behind-the-scenes work you do in Fractal Jacks is quite subtle and will hardly be noticed. So essentially, after the first or at most the second round, your spectator will theorize a way your trick works. While you act as if there is no climax, the spectator will have that "I know how he's doing it, it's so simple" feeling, until the climax turns the world upside down. Once the spectator thinks he knows how the trick works, he'll conveniently forget anything odd that might have happened (which again, I'd like to emphasize, is quite subtle). So, reconstructing what happened might be a difficult job for him indeed. ---- I actually ordered this book within minutes of receiving BigBlindMedia's newsletter. The effects are great, and are explained in great detail. The only downside to this book is that effects like 'Short Attention Scam', 'Mag-7' require multiple identical cards and blank face cards. It shouldn't be a problem if you have a few decks or a gaff/assorted deck. However, it's very well worth the effort, since these effects are great! -octave |

Am I the only one who's still waiting? I got a mail some days ago that the book is backordered. John even offered a refund and attached a pdf with some interesting lecture notes as a compensation for the long wait. (Very good read, btw.)
That's really good customer service! |
