I don't like the effect but I have a hint for those who would like to create the illusion of a
walking little man. I did'dt saw anyone before suggesting it: You can present little man with a strobe light. Based on the frequency of the flashes you can create a more dynamic walking. First it should feel as you trick out the human eyes with a mere optical illusion. Then it should become obvious that the thing really moved. Did some of you watched a show of blue men group. I am referring to to statues who start to move when the strobe light hits them. They do not move at all I guess. Just a optical illusion and another way to put the clay dude into another light... OR maybe the little man is actaully a ROBOT?
It seems like that is kinda how robots walk. |

I have not had time to sift thru all the Little Man threads so forgive me if this has been stated before.
It seems that most folks are put off by the "walking" motion. If you take that out of the equation by putting into a specific context, then I see no problem with the effect. Which leads me to the following. I like the Zombie idea, as said above, and if you change it to a light pale green clay, add some zombie face details by punching in off set eyes and a droopy broken jaw mouth hole, it actually would look very cool and be perfectly adaptable to the sliding/walking motion. I would even loosely attach an arm so it falls off while he is walking. I would redress/relabel all the included accessories, bag, clay container etc, to look faded/decomposed etc giving the whole routine a re-animated dead theme. With that routine, everything would make sense to the spectator and seem to much more logical motivation for doing all this in the first place. I have more in depth details for this routine but given I think I just talked myself into buying this...I will keep the details for myself To the naysayers...be honest here and imagine if this was marketed with the above routine and prop redressing. Would you have made so many negative comments once you had seen the "walking" motion in the Zombie context? I think this would have taken much less heat if it was marketed in this manor...maybe call it "Undead Fred" or something. Chance

The Zombie idea is brilliant.
It could be called the Plaque of the Gumbies. Click here to view attached image. |

Thank you Angelo for your comment. People do tend to forget that this is not analyzed by the average viewer as a magician would. The layperson is not thinking "but he shuffles" or "this is not normal walking". They see a piece of clay that they just put together begin to move! Period.
And no, Steve, it makes no sound. Nothing!! As everyone who owns it have stated, it is a technological marvel. Arthur |

I think presentation would be everything with this effect.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

1) Little man by paul Harris is shipping today http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=218 2) Whatever happened to "Little Man"? http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=109 I have seen the "Little Man " package with DVD. The DVD is 2 hours long and your host is Chris Ballinger (the guy from Magic Geek I think). Nothing is left on the explanations.Great tutorial. What can I say.It is gimmicked to the HILT !!!!!! The clay box . The plastic bag .The "Little Man". But after the presentation you still can show the material quickly and will look normal. Is it a magic trick worth $300 ? You will have to find out for yourself. Anyway everything was already said in other topics on this point. But I can say that it is , from my viewpoint , a mechanical marvel . So clever and so much thinking into the creating process. Is it walking ? NO , NO and NO . Everybody agrees on that. It is "crawling" slowly on the bag like 2 or 3 inches. You get the gimmicked clay box,the gimmicked bag, 3 small packs of normal clay , a Frixion pen for some specific routines,70 or so business cards to use as costumes parts for the little man and some accessories ( with gimmicked ones) like small plastic hearts and one ballchain. The quality of the props is top notch. Honestly it is pretty surprising to see the trick in person and look at the Little Man moving. Very different than a video promo. Is it a magic trick ? What is a magic trick anyway???? But for sure it is a mechanical marvel or toy. And an expensive toy no doubt. So I hope it helps. That's it. |

I've been following this thread off and on for years. All I can say is, the easiest people in the world to fool with magic are the magicians. Read any magic catalog. QED.

There are plenty of Little Men left if anyone wants one. They aren't selling out as fast as as once percieved. Maybe they'll lower the prices if they don't sell.
