I want to add another segment to my rope routine and I have been looking for a method of a rope trick I saw once.

I saw a magi take 2 different colored ropes and had held them down by his feet Xing at one wrist then had a knot that would slide up and down 1 rope then it would disappear and appear on teh other rope sliding up and down then finally just pulled the knot off.

Daryl's jumping knot of Pakistan is now called Daryl's acrobatic knot.

Thanks. I knew it was called something else but couldn't remember what.

I saw a video clip of the routine you guys mentioned and that is not what I saw performed at all.

I saw the follwoing

- Two peices of rope were held down on the floor by the magi's feet
- Both ropes were crossed at one wrist.
- The knot was visually seen sliding up and down one piece
- The magi covers the knot with his free fist and then wraps his fist around the other rope and the knot appears on the other rope also sliding up and down until he slides it off.

I also want to say I think the cut the rope in half at the beginning of the show.

The demo of Daryl's routine that I saw only shows the ropes being twisted together and uses 3 ropes - 2 of the same color and one red one.

I am recollecting here and I think I saw it on World's Greatest Magic if memory serves me.

The magician you saw was Greg Frewin on The World's Greatest Magic. He does the effect during his bird routine. He takes a green rope, ties the ends together, and then "cuts" it with his fingers. Now he has what appears to be 2 ropes tied together. He takes a yellow rope and makes the green knot to slide onto the yellow rope. He puts away the green rope and slides the green knot off the yellow rope.

Thank you Michael yes, the birds and the green and yellow colors come to mind now.... anyway, is that his personal adaptation or is that in a video or book anywhere?

I would love to learn that for my routine.

I don't know if that exact handling is in print. I'm sure similar things are though.

Hi MagicofDamon,

I'm not sure if the exact handling of that effect which you speak of is in print or commercially available, but the effect is not technically demanding.

Greg Frewin's bit with the rope's was the highlight of the WGM magic series, for me. Just superb.

Greg Frewin started magic as a duo act, those 2 guys were the most original magicians I have ever seen. They were a winning act.

Greg's bird act is totally original from his creative mind. He has not offered any of his material as he is still performing that material.

The closest thing is magic rope principles found here and there.
