Hi guys

Can anyone suggest alternative ways of saying some of the following please?

Life is full of surprises.
There's a twist in every tale.
Appearances can be deceptive.
Don't judge a book by its cover.
Nothing in life is clear cut.
Things aren't always black or white.
There are two sides to every story.
Expect the unexpected.
If you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
We see what we want to see.
Every swan is white untill you see a black swan.
Don't jump to conclusions.
Don't jump the gun.
Give people the benefit of the doubt.
Keep an open mind.

It would be nice if your suggestions are catchy, or well known truisms/proverbs/aphorisms.

Thanks

Yes they are, but I still want to find new ways of saying them.

Thanks everyone for your attempts so far. They don't have to be well known saying, but they do have to be catchy.

Thanks

Ummm ... Am I detecting subtle hints from entity, Mindfreak and Iain that I've asked a stupid question?

Or am I being paranoid?

If I did ask something I shouldn't can someone please spell this out to me as I'm a little slow.

Thank you Iain. I'm relieved/

I found one more nice one!

The only certainty is uncertainty.

Instead of telling them, why don't you just show them?

Because, to be honest, I want these lines not for a magic or mentalism act but for my work - running psychology groups on a psychiatric ward. The above lines are recurring themes from this group. I don't want to sound like a scratched record to the patients.

Make your own opportunities. Ask and the door will be opened unto you.
When the student is ready, the master appears. The only stupid question is the question not asked. Not sure, this may not be what you are looking for. He who has ears to hear, let him hear. But, I would think these would also relate to typical group issues. It takes a village to raise a ___. No man is an island unto himself.

Life is full of surprises. Time has it's own ideas about tomorrow.

There's a twist in every tale. After the commercial breaks- the story often goes another way.

Appearances can be deceptive. Sometimes the things you most wish for- Are not to be touched. (Stole this one from Sondheim)

Don't judge a book by its cover. Scorpio can be the scorpion, the Serpent or the Pheonix.... What you see now may evolve.

Nothing in life is clear cut. In life, the knife cuts in a million ways at once.

Things aren't always black or white. There is no such thing as good and bad- only thinking makes it so- That's what shakespeare said.

There are two sides to every story. Every surface has a reflection- and it requires a third to see it.

Expect the unexpected. Let the never ending Twilight ZOne episode of life be a welcome adventure.

If you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. The filters you look through will color what you see.

We see what we want to see. Our beliefs are the eye glasses of our spirit- they dictate not what we see- but what we are CAPABLE of seeing.

Every swan is white untill you see a black swan. ?????

Don't jump to conclusions. Leaping to conclusions is like jumping over the edge of a cliff at night.

Don't jump the gun. Trying to move before it is time is like trying to pull a tree from a seed.

Give people the benefit of the doubt. People COULD be thinking (doing, saying) the worst where you are concerned- but probably not!

Keep an open mind. You have to uncork a bottle in order to fill it.

Prepare for the black swan. Prepare even more for the black elephant.

"Things aren't always black or white."

Things are always black and white when your emotions are high. Basic neurology. Save your decision making for later unless it is a rabid dog running at your ankles.

If you want others to be limited to two choices raise their emotional levels first.
