Dwindling ratings led to last year’s telecast cancellation, and network executives are hoping the switch to Las Vegas and the Strip stars will give it a much-needed audience boost. Host Regis Philbin nixed an opening number as an Elvis Presley impersonator. Instead, incredible illusionist David Copperfield will create the opening segment at the Las Vegas Hilton, where Regis appears onstage.

That YouTube video seems to be missing a few frames at the critical moment of the illusion. This makes me wonder how the illusion looked in the actual broadcast.

I think that is just a processing issue as I saw it and it looked the same. As someone pointed out elsewhere, the vanishing audience might have been his biggest stunt in that clip!

When will DC do a television special next?

I think David's interests have changed over the years. He has other projects which occupy his time and attention, and he doesn't need a TV special to put butts in the seats and make a name for himself like he did when he was younger.
At this point in his career it's a big risk with very little upside. So I don't think a new special will happen anytime soon. But one day it very well may. |

Just saw an article on CNN saying that Regis Philbins voice was overdubbed and in the original shot, before editing for tv, the audience clearly saw that Regis's mouth is obviously not moving.

He's put on a few pounds since I saw him last. Of course I've put on MORE then a few pounds since then.
