My computer came pre-installed with Windows Movie Maker. It seems to be a bare-bones program even though it still gets the job done. I was wondering if anybody could recommend a better program than that which could be purchased. I'm not looking for a high-tech, ultra-complicated editing program that professional videographers and photographers would use. Instead, something similar to Windows Movie Maker but with a few more bells and whistles that the "average Joe" can use to make great-looking videos. Any suggestions? Thanks!

On Windows, I believe the next step up would be Adobe Premiere Elements. You also might look into these others to see what best fits your needs:

Do you plan to produce online videos or DVDs?
HD or standard definition? . PPNNACLE is excellent for features, price and ease of use. Adobe and Corel could have customer service issues. My son uses Pinnacle and has several hundred Youtube clips and blogs. It does the H264 codec just fine. Here I use my trusty old Premiere version 9 (before they screwed it up trying to compete with Mac). I also have the full Final Cut Pro HD package with all bells & whistles, which will keep you school forever. Add to this the cost of NoDoz and Maalox. FCP can do anything. It just takes time to figure out how. Feature creep to the extreme. If you do lots of video, you will need a large external drive for storage. Windows Movie Maker has always produced good results for online clips. The logical step up is Pinnacle IMHO.

I have Pinnacle Studo 8 from a few years ago, and Pinnacle Studio 10 from last year when I bought a Dazzle video set. I have version 10 loaded on my computer right now, and it is amazingly slow. Like I drag a 1 minute clip and it took 10-15 minutes just to for it to import by dragging and dropping or by clicking open video. II saw a pretty good review for Cyberlink, but I haven't read anything about AVS yet. What things would you say you like/dislike about each. Are they fast for loading videos and editing? Thanks. |

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping you were gonna say which features you liked about each. I did briefly try the AVS demo and Cyberlink demo. I couldn't find where to insert the DVD menus after you build the movie. Maybe that is a feature that appears after purchasing it. The AVS seemed to have smoother playback where the Cyberlink was more choppy. My old Pinnacle is absolutely terrible, well at least with the same videos I tried in AVS and Cyberlink. These two were as quick as drag and dropping a file onto your desktop or in a folder. I haven't tried rendering or making an actual DVD yet.
Thanks for your input. |
