Lately, just four quarters and a shell. My move to Bangor puts me out of touch. I don't know anyone here! LOL!

Hello All.
Great stuff. I like all the ideas. Lots of shells. Interesting. Iain-I hear ya. I'm starting to migrate to Canadian currency also. I'd like to see Mr. Tango in action with his TUC and Morgans. Gotta get me one of them. Jim. |

Hi,
I guess this is a good start for a first post. Since I don't perform anymore (I use to do street magic in the eighties), but I still enjoy manipulation and showing a few effects occasionaly, I rarely carry gaff coins with me. I like unusual coins, so I always have an old unidentified brass chinese coin 36mm (in my pocket for the past 25 years at least), and a counterfeit 5 francs 1877, 37mm (apparently silver). These two always bring interest and questions, so plenty of opportunities for misdirection. When I travel I bring my Lassen chinese coin set with sh***. I'm in the process of acquiring a new C/S in foreign currency so, this set will be added... Thanks for all these information and interesting topics... Jacques..... |

Usually I take with me 5 Morgans and a exp***** sh***, I like to perform Roth's Coin Across routines.
I am curios if anybody likes to carry and performs "Blackout".

Thanks Mb,
I've been reading the café for a while now and I always enjoy your suggestions. This coin set is nice but too small for me (25mm) I like dollar size or close (36, 37 or 38mm). I quit half dollars several years ago when I took out a Kennedy half and before I did anything else a woman said: " Oh, I saw this trick." Since then half dollars always look like "magic tricks" to me. jacques... |

I carry a flipper quarter. All I do with it is show two and it turns to one. That is the extent of my coin magic.
And once every year or so I spend it accidentally and have to buy a new one. I always wonder what someone thinks when they find the thing. Probably very mysterious. |

I would love to be in a room with Mr. Tango and watch him do his T.U.C. stuff. Sounds like he has had lots of time to create allot of great routines.
Me, I always carry an Ike Dollar, Kennedy Half and English Penny. That way I can practice anywhere I go. I also carry a copper/silver coin with me lately ever since I saw MB do stuff with his copper/silver coin on the streets of NYC. Cheers, TC |

For ease, when not prepared for performance all I carry is an 1883 soft Morgan and a chinese brass coin with a hole. A single coin routine for folks caught in an 'off guard' moment and not expecting magic is a good as anything more complex in my experience. A short sequence of clever competent vanishes and reappearance's can thrill-and its the simplest plot for the spectator to follow. If needs be I'll ring in the chinese coin and do spellbound, an effect I hated for years until I discovered how strong it can be to audiences. Or, since I always carry a sharpie for card work that too can be brought into play, coin in pen etc. I like to travel light.
I feel as if I have been whisked here from another life....it may even have been my own!

In a coin purse, I carry a set of 4 Peace Dollars,(plus a matching shell).
I also carry a single Peace dollar loose; which is in a little bit of a banged-up state. I use the single coin for a one coin routine and to practice moves whenever I have free time and free hands. Often, I'll carry two Eisenhower dollars, as well. |

Daily carry, one single Eisenhower dollar, that's "normally" it. Depending on where I'm going, I'll add some different coins to the mix. As far as that single coin goes I have several short routines that I can do with that single dollar. The most basic produce it, vanish it, coin roll, then MP that sucker then move on, short, sweet and to the point.
I'm with Reed McClintock when he say's that the MP is the single most magical thing you can do with a single coin, it really knocks em out!

Oh I don't know...I love Reed but sorta disagree about the MP being the most magical. Not really sure what's magical about the MP or a coin roll for that matter. To me they are interludes and feats between the magic, and not so much a magical effect at all but I could be wrong. IMHO the vanish and or production of a coin might be the most magical thing one can do with a single coin. I have found that when you completely vanish a coin, it blows people away. Just my 2cents on it.
I would agree though with your concepts here of routines being short & sweet. One coin is all you need most times to baffle people and make them smile.

Hopping Half, 4 half dollars, copper English penny, and a Chinese coin with a hole in the middle.
And I never leave the house without them in my left pocket. |

Normally I just carry 6 Morgans. However, sometimes I carry my Cerberus set and a shell, three chinese coins, a dollars size washer, two different plastic dollar size coins, some half dollars, english pennies and a slippery sam.....sometimes a variation of the above.
