Agree with Chris & Gary.
Thought Wave new & old version is different to Mr Bannon's I actually work this from time to time( ie. every few months I stop doing something & put something else in it's place to relieve the bordom & complacency . It hopefully keeps my energy levels & performance at full steam) This effect is very clear cut & easy for the spectators to follow & the pay off gets fantastic reactions. Not got the new version yet as didn't have a problem with version 1( I know the differences between the two)but will probably get around to buying it because anything with Mr Jones name on it is excellent. I personally don't do Peter's version which is good but opt for Garys more steamlined approach as it gets the job done quicker & is easier for the audience to follow(when they are drinking, tired etc). Anyone on the fence with this should just get it& try it. You will not be dissapointed. Mike Donoghue |

This is a GREAT effect,The footy club where I have my day job and perform magic for guests and work collegues, love this ,It is one of those effects which people remember and ask you to do again when they visit. As I have said previous on the Café this was the first trick I bought many years ago,and one I still use today, because you use the symbols it just makes it so much stronger than the normal P--- D--- routines

I know the original Thought Wave - what is the difference with Extreme ? (either described in a way that doesn't reveal too much to the curious or PM me). Thanks

So I was thinking the actual "symbol" for Psychology is NOT on the card. This is a good opportunity to draw it out on your post it notes and to tell your spectator that the symbol for psychology represents the penultimate letter of the Greek alphabet, psi, which is also the first letter of the Greek word psyche, meaning mind or soul; which in turn gave us the name of the discipline psychology which is most commonly defined as “the study of the mind.”
:::: Tear off post it note and stick it to the table ::::: :::: bring out the red card ::::: From cave paintings to modern day ’emoticons’, symbols have existed for thousands of years, and are a central part of our daily lives. We often use them in speech to create understanding with people who share our culture or experience. “My heart was like lead” gives a clear indication of sadness and regret. Other symbols speak for themselves, such as a Star of David or a cross. Symbology is the study of symbols and their meaning and hidden codes. It is studied in fields as diverse as art, mathematics, sociology…. and, of course, psychology. We are familiar with the symbol, but it has layers of other meaning for us to explore that are at first hidden. For example, a heart is an internal organ, but it can also be about love, connection, and even life. Carl Jung devised the concept of archetypes, images and concepts with universal meaning that come from the shared past of our humanity. These can be found in our ‘collective unconscious’, a part of the unconscious Jung believed is actually shared with everyone and has memories and images in it from collective evolution. I think it can be interesting to take time to notice what symbols are a part of your life and that affect you, or perhaps ones that you are even drawn to … so maybe you and I… right now can discover our collective unconscious? Sound fun? Let's begin.... |

I have a question about the the difference of the two versions. I don't like using the Phoenix cards, the spectators might notice something strange when they handle them. I know, I can do the trick without them handling (turning over) the cards, but in some circumstances it works much better.
Even with the number of symbols limitation in the "old" version, I want to know how the original deck feels on the hands. Will a spectator notice the Protea cards feel different than normal ones? |

Thanks for the reply. Do you think they are about as noticeable as the Phoenix DD's or a little less obvious?

Having the new version thought wave extreme I don't think it is a good idea to have the spectator turn or handle the card. Does anyone have opinions on this?
