As I have said numerous times---in the right hands, with the right practice this will be a fine example of close-up magic. It is a pen thru dollar in key form. And for the price---what the heck.

Magikevin, as said before, this isn't any more unnatural than sticking a pen thru a bill. Its probably more natural being that keys are always on you. If you present your magic with no presentation, than obviously its not going to have a "point" to the spectator.

I do like the idea that you hold the lite end of the key and it actually supports the heavier set of keys. Seems like a good strong gimmick.

If this is just one gimmicked key (and nothing else) that you can add to your regular set of keys that is on you all the time, and you don't have to be careful with it or be afraid to loose anything, then this is ingenious.

Yea I'm excited to hear a review about this. If its like Nimrod hopes, then it could be great

Nimrod, there is also a DVD with four separate effects each with specific handling.
We have been very encouraged by the reaction to this and really hope the reviews are just as positive. |

Andrew's new product "The Key," arrived in the mail today. This is a great product and with a DVD 24.95 is a very good price. You can't go wrong purchasing The Key. Very easy to do, and it looks great. I give it two thumb-tips up. Jerry

When I thnk something good I say it and when I don't I'll say it as well. Isn't that why were here? Andrew Mayne has creat some good stuff. Take ghost bills for instance. I think it's neat, creative, impromptu (huge plus) and everything can be examined. Can we say that about this effect? Can the key be examined becaus if I did this routine for my friends and family the second I'm done the are gonna want to see the cool magic key I have on my ring and figure out how it works. Misled on the other hand can use a borrowed pencil, bill and can be examined. The point being a miracle can be made with ordinary objects! :) K |

I don't think you could have used a worse example no matter how hard you tried. Michael Ammar, Vernon and many others have done great routines with Cups and Balls too. But that doesn't automatically make Cups and Balls a great trick- when done by many 'magicians' it's a crap trick. Everything you posted in this thread was how the 'trick' was bad. Now as an example of a 'good trick' you use a great performer and his great routine as an example of a "good trick". I think Tommy Wonder could have spent a little time with The Key and made it a great performance piece too. Therefore it's a good trick? |

Many demos do, and (as proved by people like Al Cohen and Mark Mason) a great demo will sell a lot more tricks than a weak demo. But why should anyone expect the guy that invented the trick to spoon feed you the motivation, or the presentation, or any particular performance aspect? If one wants to be a good magician they should learn to recognize a good trick even when it's not being sold with a good performance. There can still be differences of opinion, but there is a difference between a 'bad trick' and a bad (or weak) demo of a trick that could be very good. |

I mentioned Tommy Wonder as an example of how he presented those effects and how it came across to the audience. I would love to see a YouTube video of someone performing this trick and making it seem interesting. I'm glad my comments have sparked this debate. The key in my opinion is not something I would perform, granted Cameron mentioned to switch the key. That's fine if the you have another that looked the same as the gaff and only if you removed the key from the ring before the penetration. Since I'm sure the spectator would want to check out the whole key ring and keys. I respect the fact that most of you like the effect, I hope you enjoy performing it and get great reactions. Would love to hear the stories of your presentations and reactions! Thanks for your input, my fellow magician comrades! Kevin |
