All,
I used RIT dye from a drug store. Put a table spoon in a bowl with hot water and then put four regular goshman sponge balls in. "stirred" them in the bowl for a few minutes. Rinsed them off and let dry. I have not had them bleed and they look great. Hope this helps. David |

The true test is to try this with Goshman super soft.
If we are talking blue, to yellow there is a transfer of color. (other colors as well) RIT is not pro dye and if you have rich color, dampen them. Push them in a tube or TT for 20 minutes and see if you still do not have color transfer. I can take balls and put them in cold water , squeeze and not loose color. HOWEVER as soon as they are touching, they transfer colors when touching. RIT is not pro dye and is designed for fabrics not sponge. Some colors hold better than others but blue or green next to yellow seems to transfer with RIT on my end. I hve tried two chemcial fixatives and it did not help with the transfer. I guess if NOT putting different colors side by side you might get it to set if you use the hottest water the ball can take and rinse all excess dye out. But you still might get transfer. What Peter White might be using is a pro dye that is used for silk and other natural fibers and holds great and can be washed. It did not work for Ian most likely due to the fact that when damp is when it can bleed off any dye that is not penetrated deep. It might not be the case but most likely was the case. |

Well, I should clarify. I used RED regular goshman sponge balls. The come from the factory/store more "orange" than I prefer. The Red RIT dye worked well for me.
thanks, |
