Because as is typical it is too big to handle which means nothing gets done. The internet company I worked for was looking for people to scan emails or something after key phrases are found by the computer.
The whole thing reminds me of security at San Jose Int'l Airport. They use to review the xrays of hand carries as much as 12 hours after the person has gone through because the workers are not paying attention. That is when they find guns and hand grenades (turned out to be a paper weight) and they then shut down the airport to do a search forgetting the person went through hours earlier and already was home. So if they collect millions of emails and all that they will not be considered unless from specific people. I'd not worry about it because as is the typical excuse I'm not sending anything to worry about. |

Ah, I don't care... if they are going to waste time following me around they will be bored as hell.
There is no national security because it is a log jam and there is absolutely no mechanism in place to fix it. Any attempt to figure it out will result in more logs being jammed in there and it is a shame. They don't want to share info, they don't want to give up a little power if it is for the betterment of the situation, complete nonsense. Heck, in California they had to make a law to force police department A to notify police department B in the next town if a kid was kidnapped because they wouldn't tell each other! Imagine that many times over. Lets face it, real time information is only valuable if you look at it at that time. To me it is as if the cops were looking for a criminal and you tell them "he was in that house a year ago", doesn't do a bit of good now but you can bet they'll spend a week searching the house they know the guy isn't in because they have people to keep busy. |

RS1963, you mention that waste as described in the article is nothing new. So do you think it is silly for a newspaper to talk about / expose waste, as the Washington Post claims to be doing? To answer the question you asked. Actually it more than likely is a waste of time by the reporters. Again if people paid attention in schools more they would know more about such things. It have never been a secret that the U.S. or any other country for that matter does these things. Well if you live your life with head in the sand and didn't pay much attention to school or anything else sure it may be "news" but to the actual educated public it is not. Again it's been done by the U.S. since WWII and I'm sure even before. Yes it's done more now then it was back then. But we are also a country with more people more companies etc.... So yes really it is a waste of time as the reporters should have known all this has always been going on. There is nothing they new they going to reveal anyway. |

The comment of yours that I was responding to was "It's common knowledge and as Santa said every country does it too" and in Santa's post (the one you were referring to), he was talking about profiteering (what I would call waste) and handing out security clearances, NOT watching videos. Sorry for the confusion, but apparently you thought I was responding to one of your posts from yesterday. I was not. I was responding to a post you made today.

Good question, Lobo. I have tried to introduce non-USA political topics and they go nowhere. I have my suspicions as to why, but I don't really know.
We have NOTS posters from USA Canada England Ireland Germany Australia Paraguay Taiwan Indonesia South Africa Finland And probably quite a few others that slip my mind at the moment. I suspect that very few people who post here know who the head of state is in more than one or two of these countries and fewer yet could speak in any detail about any political topic of moment in any country other than the one on the top of the list. Hey, lets me honest, a lot of us don't care who is head of state of those countries! And at least a couple of the countries you mentioned the people here who live there are from other countries.
