I am interested in attending this upcoming "Coinvention". I am an "intermediate" level coin worker, with no-where near the skills of most on here.
Is this convention geared toward the more experienced? I would love to attend, but would hate to travel so far to feel left out due to my experience level. Also, what kinds of costs are involved? (not including travel) Thanks! |

Dude, you'll be fine. Go and have fun.
That is if you can afford the cost: Price of the Coinvention, Traveling there and back, Hotel, Food, Magic stuff and souveniers. That should about cover it all. Chris |

Here is a blurb I put up at my website http://www.coinvanish.com regarding the COINvention. Notice I have hyperlinks to the various websites - click the yellow words.
If you are a Coin Magic aficionado you do not want to miss the first ever COINvention taking place in Las Vegas on September 17, 2003. This is at the same place the Las Vegas Magic Invitational (LVMI) Close Up Convention will be taking place earlier in the week September 14-16, 2003. Various coin magicians will be lecturing, performing, and attending the COINvention. Reported attending coin magicians are Dean Dill, Kainoa Harbottle, Curtis Kam, Bob Kohler, Reed McClintock, Mutobe, David Neighbors, Daryl, Nathan Kranzo, Doug Brewer, Apollo Robbins, Shoot Ogawa, Geoff Latta, David Roth, Michael Rubenstein, Shoot Ogawa, Chris Korn, Garrett Thomas, oh, and your friendly Coinvanish.com host. Tentative topics covered will be Ramsay's Cylinder and Coins, Visible Coins Across (3 Fly), New Angles on Coin grips, Matrix Madness, and the Future of Coin Magic. You can read the discussions from the birth of the idea to reality in our own forum in the Magic Events Section. The link to this part of my forum is HERE. |

Shoot appears twice, I guess he missed the first time.
Actually Shoot and I are booked to lecture at LVMI, not the COINvention. There were just too many top-notch people to fit into one day, so now we're overflowing into the LVMI, which will feature a coins-only show, and other coin-friendly events. For anyone in the CA area, I'll be lecturing at the Magic Castle Sunday, 8/24, sort of a preview of the lecture for LVMI, coinvention lite.

Does "Invitational" mean you have to be invited or what? Thanks for answering the question of skill levels of the attendees for the Coinvention because it certainly sounds great. What are the cost of the lectures I haven't found any info on that yet? Are any of the lectures included in price of Registration?

Lectures are included in the registration cost. Lots of other goodies are also included. You don't need an invitation to COINvention, and although the Las Vegas Magic Invitational is called that, I believe I am qualified to extend an invitation to you. So, you're invited.

Curtis,
Did someone remember to invite those Victoria's Secret models to the Coinvention? We all need audiences for a Chink-a-chink or your Reverse matrix routine. |

Kainoa,
It's Vegas. Possibly the only place in the world where Victoria's Secret models are, well, not superfluous, but redundant. Best, Geoff

I don't think it has happened yet so, if you want to go, you just sign up. All the lectures are included in the price. There will be a few extra cost workshops that usually take place late at night after the lectures if you want to take part. COINvention pretty much the same, no extra cost for lectures. |

I believe the last time I was there the big thing was an SAM tour of Sigmund and Freud's backstage apartment, which was guarded by his female dancers in Gold body armour. I don't remember much of the rest of the tour, except for a particularly frightening mural and the extra tiger cages next to the bed. |

I believe the tour was included as one of the perks of going to the SAM (IBM maybe? or Las Vegas Seminar?) convention back in 91 [?]. I'm not quite certain what these poor women in brass-ware (which included heavy, Valkyrie inspired helmets) would have done if we had started snooping....batted us with plastic eyelashes? Or perhaps club us with their breastplates, I suppose. Probably just layed us flat with a headbutt and then put us in a cage. We can only hope that the Coinvention threatens dangers that enjoyable.
