In another thread it was mentioned that there is a new coin DVD out from Jean Emmanuel Franzis called Le Souffle d'Eole. I have no idea what the title translates to, but it probably sounds really cool when spoken by a French person!
Anyway, one of the effects on the DVD is called Perfect Three Fly. I really wanted to see what the effect looked like, but there wasn't a demo for it to be found. So, I emailed the company who produced the DVD - Joke Magie - and asked if there was a demo available anywhere. There wasn't, so they made one for me! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4Sipr531P0 I wanted to post this here as a "thank you" to them for going through the trouble to post a demo of Perfect Three Fly, and to give you all a chance to see the effect for yourselves. More info on the DVD, and a demo for another effect from it, can be found here: http://www.jokemagie.com/Le_Souffle_dEole.html |

It translates as The Winds of Aeolus. Aeolus was the greek god of winds.
Either way a cool title and a nice three fly. Unfortunatly a little flashy. Joe |

Looked a bit like the "Come Fly With Me" demo, though I'm certain it is not the same. Just has a very similar pace to it.
Thanks! Jim |

The DVD is great, and Jean Emmanuel is one of the up and coming coin guys you will start to hear a lot about. He will be both at the New York Coin Magic Seminar on Oct 16-17 at Marc DeSouza's magic theatre in King of Prussia, PA, and at the European coin symposium in Milan in November.

I guess it's sorta nice but I don't know...Doesn't seem so "perfect" to me in the way of either being perfect or relatively being anything out of the ordinary. Am I missing something here? I happened to think about the same as to Kenner's last effect where he supposedly offered a heightened way to do 3 Fly, that happened to look pretty much like his original ungaffed version, just a heckuva lot more expensive. But I can see here that this guy is a very good coin worker and maybe that's more the deal here than just the effect. Anyway, just my 2cents, I wish him the best with it and his new DVD, looks real interesting.

I think if he would have showed more of the inside of the left hand after that last coin, it would have been perfect.

If you want to see perfect 3 fly then Mano Tejera is the one to look up his versions no one does.

It reminds me of Reed McClintock's Freedom Flight. Reed shows an empty hand afterward that got me the first time I saw it.

Have to agree about Mano, remarkable coin man...On another level in this stuff. I've seen his 3 Fly in person and it is killer stuff.
While I like some of the gaffed versions of 3 Fly out there, I still think that it was done best by Kenner initially in his ungaffed version...Very deceptive, engaging, quite clever and perhaps maybe even "Perfect" in its simplicity. There's a lot of ways to do it, gaffed or ungaffed/cheap or expensively (even I have one or two of the cheap ones) but they all come from Kenner's basic thinking and application as to the effect. So I don't know, but I just didn't see anything all that much in this "Perfect Three Fly." Still it was done pretty well for what it is.

Mano never uses a gaff His alignment move is a thing of beauty. This along with his other palming methods makes his three fly stand alone....

If I ever made a demo, I would re-shoot if I flashed that much. With a title of "Perfect 3-fly", I expected something totally different. Holding out 1 coin for a three fly effect is no big deal, but when your left holding out 3...

I don't like to make a judgement unless I have seen the entire finished product.
No doubt he is a very accomplished coin worker. He just doesn't look comfortable in this short clip. Performing for the camera is a very different animal requiring a period of acclimation.

I am amused by anyone calling a 3Fly "perfect" if their hands touch at all! It is possible to have three coins migrate one at time from one hand to the other with your wrists shackled to a stick so that your fingers cannot touch each other. For me, this is "more perfect" than any in which your hands/fingers touch, but would never claim it to be "THE perfect 3Fly." I am sure someone, once inspired, can come up with something even better!
Yet, to perform this would only amuse magician as a lay audience would only be confused by the need/desire to shackle your hands -- nor might they even notice that my hands never touch. I keep looking for the "best" 3Fly for a lay audience that justifies both having three coins in the first place and blends into a meaningful effect afterwards. Accosting a stranger with, "I have three silver dollars in my left hand," doing a 3Fly and then pocketing the coins and walking away or doing another effect is not a "perfect" anything" -- certainly not magic. A couple of people like Mb seem to be able to do this by having a huge repertoire of "in your face" coin effects that he can vary according to the setting and audience, but most of what I see on YouTube offerings would never "Fly" before a lay audience. Of course, since I cannot do even a poor 3FLy with consistency my opinion means nothing.

Vinny was referencing the video shown which based on the title is using Jonny Wong's Super Triple Coin. Here, Vinny is correct. You are correct Ponta does a beautiful 3 Fly without a gimmick. However, based on the title to the video and some of the handling this is not it. Joe |
