I have commented to Murray that I felt his delivery of the illusion was dead on. Murray confederacy and playfulness shines bright on camera, he connects with everyone so quickly.
My wife said to me right after the performance, I hope he has something bigger for the next round. For me it would be nice to see something never done before on TV..
No one said it would be easy, or did they?

I liked that he borrowed Piers's jacket. It destroyed the "Twin" theory. I will be the first to admit that he fooled me! I was too busy watching the performance to pay attention to how he could of done it. I got to hang out with him quite a bit when I was in Vegas, not only is he a great magician, but he is also one of the nicest guys I have ever met in the magic community. He let me tag along with him all over Vegas. He is an all around great guy. I really hope he gets voted through.

For anyone who missed that, see Murray ~ America's Got Talent, Top 48 week-4.
He got a standing ovation for that short performance, and rightfully so. I hope he gets to perform in Vegas. I seems unfair that magicians have to keep doing something bigger each round when singers merely have to be better than whoever they compete against. I think I understand the reason magicians are judged that way. Ironically, I think it's because magician's acts are better remembered than singer's singing a song. It's as if all the magician's performances are in one show, and so a lesser performance is seen as anticlimactic.
Humans make life so interesting. Do you know that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to create boredom. Quite astonishing.

Murray picked out a great illusion to perform last night and performed it very well. I hope he makes it through to the next round.
William, thanks for sharing your experience on the show. It's also great to hear that Murray is an all around great guy. I wish him well. |

I just went to the link to see Murray on AGT. Wow! Great job.
When I see an effect performed that well, I am in awe. I haven't been following AGT so I do not know what other performers he is up against, but if his next effect is as wonderful.... wouldn't it be great to see a magician win it? I wish him luck! |

Murray definately as the skills to win it. I agree with Bill 100% over how unfair it may be to Magicians. The singers can instantly connect with the audience because the audience hears something familiar and can tell right away weather or not the singer is good. As a magician you need to give the audience a reason as to why you are performing this particular effect. I can tell you that it is virtually impossible to do on that show. With only 90 seconds to perform you have to have something huge, fast and hard hitting to survive. Murray definately delivered.

I think it was interesting that Murray said his family owned a Railroad Company and he is now an American citizen. So is he Canadian?

As my wife said "It's kinda like 'card to impossible location', but with a signed person instead".
How can you not love it? I'm utterly fooled! |

I have a big problem with "box magicians" on AGT. IMO, there is zero talent in what Murray or any of the "box magicians" have done. Zero! You can replace him and any of the others with anyone with a little bit of stage presence.
Is it entertaining...**** yes. Does he deserve a Vegas show..., maybe, but in the context of the show...where is the talent? I could walk down to my local dance studio, pull any 14 year old kid out, teach them the mechanics of the trick and they could present this better, yet still I would say that there is no actual talent involved. Murray did absolutely nothing but talk and pull a curtain off a box, please tell me where that takes talent... I have my extinguisher in hand...bring the flames. |

Tmoca,
Obviously, you know nothing about performing stage illusions. To perform a stage illusion well, it requires proper staging, lighting, costuming, music and timing. If it didn't require any skill, then how do you explain the many dreadful performances of illusions on YouTube? |

(same ol' stuff here on the Café) Second of all, I never said it doesn't take all of those things. It does. It takes a plethora of skill to build a house, build a computer, as well as any type of performance. Typically these jobs require many people on the job. Are these talents or skill sets? I feel there is a distinct difference between skill and talent. My only beef is that Murray shows us zero talent. IMO, the assistant, the illusion designer, the tiger and the trainer deserve the AGT prize over the magician standing on stage telling us what is happening. |

I've missed most of AGT since it's inception, probably since it comes under that dubious category of "Reality" programming. Did Murray perform any of the CD act? That's talent.

Of course Tmoca offers no information about him in his profile so it is easy for him to spread negativity and remain unknown. I have received numerous emails from haters like him for "stealing Copperfield's Origami Illusion" if you can believe that. I am sure he has never been on the show or any show as well, if he has he wouldn't be so ignorant as to what Murray is doing. Murray is playing their game. Go big or Go home. That is what the show wants. Every manipulation act as been voted off, and with only 90 seconds you have no time to set up a routine. Murray is also compiling a phenomenal amount of video for a promo. Full production quality video of a Ferrari appearance, a tiger cage, and (though it was brief) a bow staff illusion. Murray doesn't have to win the show to win for himself. He is showing all potential bookers that he has a hard hitting show.
tmoca, please post some of your talent so we can all judge as you so freely judge others. P.S. You admitted that he is entertaining...isn't that what the show is all about? |

"Talent" or "skill set" - it doesn't really matter what you name it. If someone can be truly entertaining, why should we care what it is called?!?!?!
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

Its always the guys who don't give their identities here who say such negative things. Takes talent to build or design the prop,(or even find the perfect prop and buy it) train the assistant to do the effect, find perfect music, choreograph, rehearse, and so on. He also had to do quite a lot to work a tiger in.
Its also usually the guys who never did illusions that say such things. If you had, you would know what hard work and dedication it takes to sell that "box". This guy got a standing ovation on national television. Give him some credit, that's a fantastic accomplishment for any performer. Can't you just be happy that one of us got a shot like that and capitalized on it well? Best regards, Steven Cambian |
