.. reading the fine print at the shows end credits states that the $1M is allotted over 40 years. $2083.00 per month / 25,000 per year.
I guess it's a tax thing. But, I'd take it. The real prize is where it can go from there. (As the ventriloquist Terry Fador discovered) |

HAHAHA! Yes Nala, you are correct. When I was reading the fine print in the contracts I had to sign I was disheartened when I saw that. Although an extra 25 grand a year for 40 years is a pretty nice chunk of change. I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Fator when I was in Las Vegas. He is a super nice guy! I believe he also signed the largest contract in Vegas history.....something to the tune of 100 million dollars.

Yes, I agree, He certainly has his feet on the ground.
I go to Las Vegas every Sept. Haven't been able get tickets to his show the last 2 years. Will try again this year, buying online. He seems to move back and forth quite a bit. ps/ I also salute your performance on AGT! |

I believe it is 25k per year for 40 years OR you can accept a lump sum single payment equal to the current value of the annuity, which is in the neighborhood of 300k I believe.
As far as the Vegas gig, they state on the show that you simply get to headline a show in Vegas. This doesn't necessarily mean a long-term contract but is most likely in reference to headlining the America's Got Talent live show which will be staged this year at Caesars Palace. This is a one time performance, or possibly a couple performances, but should not be confused as being an extended run gig like Terry Fator's. His Vegas contract was not a "prize" for winning AGT, the offer came later and is separate from AGT although I wouldn't be surprised if the AGT producers get a cut similar to the deal that American Idol winners must accept. |

I am of the understanding that Terry Fator had to sue AGT to get out of his contract. I didn't read anything about the lump sum in the contracts, but Videoman is definately right about the vegas gig.

Good point Xpilot,
This was the problem that Chipps ran into. The opening act of his comedy show is the magic portion which is about 10 minutes long. After that he goes into a regular stand up routine. The producers wanted him to stick with the magic stuff even though he was very limited on material. They did not want him to do his regular comedy bits. |

In response to the box pusher opinion put forward by tmoca I offer this comparison: David Williamson doing Rocky is different than a middle aged business hack performing it for his dinner party after 3 nights of practice. Murray and his years of stage craft is much different than an over weight lawyer doing a tip over trunk for the bar association banquet.
My point is that not everyone can do what Murray does. Good magic isn't only a perfect double lift or 10 ball billiard routine. |

I just assumed that everyone knew Chipps was a stand-up comedian and would have lasted longer doing stand-up instead of what he tried to pull off, that did not work. However a true comedy magician would have be able to come back with a lot more material to work with. Chipps may have as well if he would have linked up with a real comedy magician.
No one said it would be easy, or did they?
