I think that for me one of the most positive aspects of the internet is the existence of forums (such as this one) where you can search out the opinions of others regarding any effect or equipment that you are considering purchasing. It doesn't feel like you are gambling with your money nearly as much as it used to. Within a short period of time spent reading other's opinions you can get a fairly good idea whether or not something is right for you.

The best thing is that you also can meet and chat with great names in magic who browse this forum and ask them questions about their work or precisions on some effects.

I would be years behind in terms of magic if the Café did not exist. Thankyou. Keep up the good work.

Magic Café is a great place to also buy second hand magic and it is easier to check prices.

The Magic Café not only helped me pick the best magic shops, but also the best tricks. If it was not for The Magic Café, I'll be homeless. lol.

Agree. This is a terrific site. The forums provide a wealth of information and opinions. They are a definite money-saver: all you have to do is ask about an effect, a source, a store, etc., and you'll receive helpful replies about whatever you need. Glad I found the Café!

Forums have really helped me because I don't live extremely close to a shop.

I like going with the Web if I know what I need. If I know it is good and what I am getting.
If what I am getting is a mystery to me, then I like to use a real magic shop to act as a filter for me. To throw away the crap, and sell me the good. That is the one downside with the web, you are not sure what you are always getting so you are SOL if you get it and dislike it.

I really like being able to search the net for information on effects, reviews by other magicians, and ideas for ways to make effects more novel. Of course, one can get these from participation in magic clubs, but the net connects us to a much larger family.

The Internet is so useful, for all the reasons stated above. It is endless!

The internet has matured to the point it can replace much of what I lost when my local shop (Steve Dawson's Magic Touch) closed down.
I'd go to the shop and ask Steve to perform items and he'd help me choose items that were appropriate for my style/level... he'd never steer me to things that were over my head magically, and actually pulled me back from things, things he could have easily sold and let me add to my "magic coffin" (my graveyard for poor magic purchases Online videos, reviews and forums like this are great, and they are especially valuable when the closest magic shop is over 30 minutes away - where they don't perform in the shop.
Learn something new everyday.

I agree with all of you. The Internet is now a great source of reference, wether it is BB like this one, info from manufacturers or E-Magazines.
Cheers! ;-) |

I do agree on this as well. I order quite often things from magic dealers in the United States - I live in Europe - and due to the reviews in this Café I probably have saved a lot of money by not buying any bad props. Thanks everyone. This Café is great!

Doesn't anyone else get bookings from the internet, or is that too personal a question?

I want to add video clips to my site at a latter date. I may even add audio comments from audience members to my site. |

You are right there is nothing like the feeling you get when someone calls you up and says "I loved your web site, I only live a couple miles away from you, what is your price, and are you availible for our event". cyber space is your friend Al Angello
