Hi, I recently got the "Super Walking Knot"-trick from my magic mentor, but since he never performed it (or like once) he forgot how to do it and hadnt really a suggestion on a routine I thought I could ask you guys.
I got a small explanation on a paper but I really don't get it so well. Hard to explain what I fail on without spoiling the trick, so instead I will ask like that. Anyone that has experience of the super walking knot maybe can send me a message or write here, so I can ask you in a message instead? Thx, Joacim |

Actually there are many versions of it at youtube, and Pavel does have a demo video of it too.

If you have the instructions then it explains the routine in it.
Stretch out rope between something like a 2 chairs. Cut rope and tie a knot. Move knot to another area along the rope. Untie rope to show the cut has moved as well. Some people have the sudience say when to stop moving the knot along the rope. Also why don't you sit down with your mentor and work out the routine, that is what a mentor does. Have a fun afternoon working on this great rope mystery. Which version do you have? |

Yhe we came up with a small routine together me and my mentor, much like those I found on youtube, but with some more audience participation. But the problem for me is the secret fixing with the knot/rope (dont want to say to much)and how to do that in the best ways. Cause its two different suggestion in the pamflet but I find neither working so well.
But havent performed it yet and maybe the audience isn't looking that closly since its just tying a knot youre doing, and maybe I'm worrying without any reason? Its Pavel´s super walking knot, 17 pieces, 15 small ones, a really nice handcraft. |

If it has 17 pieces you have the super walking knot. There is also the simplified, and the junior version of this trick.

Do you have any experience of it? |

I have the junior walking knot. It sounds like you need practice in making a smooth transition. When Harry Anderson did this trick he stopped to tell a one liner when he made "the move" so if you try that it will give you more time to make it look convincing.
Good Luck

That is exactly the advice I was going to suggest. It is practice. It is much like tying your shoes. You don't go up to someone and say, watch me tie by shoes. You just do it without thinking. It is done in seconds. You are not trying to prove anything to them. Additionally, I do not think this is the kind of effect you bring up spectators to watch or assist, they give instruction from their seats.
Another way to explain what I am trying to convey, is you just cut the rope tie it and that is were the effect begins. Everything else is unimportant leading up to the sliding effect. I think it is your thinking and do not grab the nature of the effect. |

I have this (junior) and I felt the same way..clumsy on the first part till I practiced enough I didn't even really have to look at what I was doing.
Practice..practice..It is a fantastic effect that should be performed only after much practice to get it nice and smooth. Good Luck with it Don |

Shawn Farquhar has the absolute best method for tying the knot. You might contact him to see if he's going to release it to the public any time soon.

But thx for the input this helped me a lot getting some confidence trying this trick in the future. Tying the knot should be practiced a lot so if its just natural, like I think someone said or if I raid it somewhere that if we magician don't focus on that thing the audience wont either. So maybe I'm getting a bit nervous without reasons, its just tying a knot for the audience, and that's nothing suspect really, if you don't make it suspect. |

Now that we all agree on the handling. I would like to know where you intend to perform this trick? After all it is a 16' piece of rope, with a chair at either end.

The best performances I'v seen have the mage talking to and looking at the audience when tying the knots.

The reason why I bought the junior walking knot is because I do not do a lot of large stage shows, and the junior walking knot will work in a living room.

Is it shorter? Maybe that's something to buy then. On the junor was it just three places where you could cut?
