I loved Dan's performance too. I bought that trick several years ago but have never actually tried it. Of course, Dan's presentation, music, performance, and everything else is what made it so great. I really liked that instead of a BIG illusion that we've all seen before, he took something small and with great performance made it spectacular.

AMAZING performance, great style. I am so glad to see that the AGT audience received him so well and I wish him continued success. Great job Dan!

I love how dan played to the judges to get such a huge reaction, playing off Howies germ phobia made a small trick with floss and a lifesaver play HUGE. saw the mask to dove live, it is a great visual trick that he opens his dove act with now...

Nice performance but I agree it seems it'd be stronger if he didn't chew up the mint. Presumably he's tried it both ways for lots of performances and his data proves me wrong.

I think restoring the lifesaver and pulling it through your throat are both magical. Chewing the lifesaver adds a theatrical beat and whether or not it was chewed is too subtle to have any impact on the shocked audience when it is pulled through neck.

I think Dan's Performance was perfect for him! I am sure he put a lot of time into planning rather to swallow or chew the lifesaver and I agree with the way Dan went with his performance because it added to his personality and HIS ACT!
Besides this is about a great magician showing his stuff and helping boost all of our jobs or hobbies with his appearance and doing so well. I just hope you all voted for him so we can see more!!!! I personally want to see more of his Bird acts because that is how I know of him anyway!!! For those who did not you saw just a taste by his mask to dove (Which was brilliant!) Again Congrats

If you're looking for Dan Sperry's own perspective on his performance style, including his lifesaver routine and others then read the words written by the man himself here:

No surprise, but Dan made it thru to the next round. I was really happy to see Dan stay in character and not jump around like a giddy school girl when he was announced that he was moving on. Pro 101% man.....
Congrats Dan.... I hope you will do Razors in the next round...

They had a guy already get kicked off this season for swallowing needles. Dan was a class act tonight as well as last night. I am a big fan! I can't wait to see what he does next.

Scott,
If I recall, Pierce had said that the needle trick was amazing but the guy was so annoying that he hated him and he just didn't care... You may have more info about it tho' since you were there...???? If you've never seen Dan's razors, you'd be in for a treat. Very poetic....

Hi Chris,
I haven't seen them and I would love to. I believe 100% that it is just as you guys say, pure poetry. I just don't want to see him get kicked off, or have it compared to the needle trick. Also, just because I was there doesn't mean I know squat...lol. I was actually hoping that Mr. Sperry didn't do the lifesaver trick. I love that trick, and I could watch him do it over and over and over. However, I thought that because of all the "big" tricks that have been done they wouldn't receive it nearly as well as they should. As you all know....he did the lifesaver trick and turned it into the most memorable moment they have ever had on the show! I was in tears when pierce "hereby charged him with the attempted murder of Howie Mandel." I hope that video goes viral like the Kevin James video did. |

One of the best magic performances I've ever seen. Dan rocks! Everything little movement was perfect from tracing the circle on his neck with his finger, to conducting the music with the dental floss... and I loved his subdued demeanor during all the mayhem he had just created... Its just like he says...anti-conjuror... its all about opposites... The judges are flipping out, so he stays cool as a cucumber. Great work Dan.

It may provide motive in the audiences mind for the initial appearance of a thing of floss, but it is not held up by what happens next. Mind you, nothing wrong with turning the audiences assumptions on them. My personal issue with the chewing is not that it happens, but that such attention is brought to it. Over emphasizing it like he does draws specific attention to it and the logic that breaks when having it reproduced fully formed. There is a great motive for pulling the mint through your throat, however such motive is lost when you throughly chew the mint.
